Smithing «» Black/Onyx Cuisses Question

Hi, i'm a rather "new" smither, still 98+3, but, trying to make black cuisses the question is, as far as i could tell by searching on forums and ffxiah.com, it's a Lv. 93 Smithing with unknown Leather sub, yet the leathers needed for it caps @ 61, making this recipe a Tier0?

Or im just messing this?

0/9 on them until. I just wanna make sure if this is a tier1 or 0.

Most items that have a subcraft are usually about 5-10 points lower than the level required to synth the ingredient. It may be possible to get T1 on these, but even then 0/9 isn't uncommon for people on T1 synths.

IIRC you can hit Tier 1 with the +1 leathercraft gloves.

Oh, i realize it's not uncommon a 0/9 at all, i just want an idea of what's its tier before i continue making them, and Firedemon, leather gloves + leather support? or just smithing support + leather gloves?

Well you need 104 smithing to get T1, assuming 100, +1 from the body, and +1 from moglification, you would need advanced smithing to reach that 104. If you have the leathercraft mitts you can reach the 60+1 and break T1 there as well.

The lowest smithing you can hit T1 would be 99, assuming you have the 60+1 leather.

I don't have the +1 leather mitts and somehow I HQ about 15% of these synths. I always get smithing support to push myself above T1 smithing.

hmmm really? I remember a big discussion about HQing these on the forum quite awhile back with people saying you need the +1 leather mitts to break T1. If that's really the case, I'm going to try to HQ these earlier than expected.

Maybe you do! All I know is that I've synthed probley like 60-70 pairs of these and I've HQ'd like 10.

Well, regarding the smithing skill, i have 104 since i'm 98, then +3 (from smithing items) +3 (support), leather is 60. If i indeed need the leather gloves, i would have to be 99 smithing +2 +3 with 60+1 leather, which is gonna suck GP-wise.

But if Izzy managed to get a HQ rate of 15%, i think anytime soon i will be able to finally HQ this freaking item.

I'm not saying that you can T1 it without the leathercraft gloves, I'm just stating that I've had some pretty consistent results without it.

ANYWAY, i think im just gonna get some mats for around 6 pairs and craft them when i get smithing 99 or something, not that breaks a tier, but oh well =/

You always used paid support, tho, right?

I'm not gonna try the synth until I get my gloves, just in case it turns out you actually do need them. My HQ rate on anything is pretty balls, and if I can get a shadow of hope of a T1 then I'm gonna try haha.

Sorry for the Necro bump. I was wondering if we have any more new info on this as if leather 61 is needed. And I wonder if Zerv has anything to follow up.

Ok, thank you. Just heard some horrid story on this so I want to make sure before I go ahead with it.

I've hq'd 2 out of 12-13 synths, no leather gloves so 60 flat skill. I strongly doubt gloves are needed. HQ rate looks to be on par with Haubergeon, somewhere near 10%. Good luck!
