Xbox 360 games cut off on HDTV

I'm running my Xbox 360 on a 1080i HDTV and whenever I run a game it seems to be cut off on the sides but not the top. Like in GTA IV the phone is cut off. This is a samsung hdtv if it makes a difference.

Are the display settings setup for HDTV resolution? Believe there's an option in system settings for 4:3/16:9 or SD/HD. Can try following this, perhaps, but from the sound of it seems like it's just running the wrong aspect ratio. If not I have no clue.

Along with what Ciayuo said, check the TV picture settings. I also use a samsung with my 360 and while i've not had this problem, there are some aspect ratio options on the TV itself.

Could be the pixel shape, I had this problem with my Sharp Aquos but it was set to stretch instead of dot by dot.

    Googling found this:

I entered the service menu by doing this:

    Turn TV Off
Use remote and hit "Mute 1 8 2 Power" (not at the same time, but one after the other)

The TV will come on with the service menu. Enter the 1080i adjustment screen. Write down ALL the values in case you mess up. Adjust the values as necessary to fit your screen. It's sort of like adjusting a computer monitor's image for different resolutions.

Without knowing the exact model TV I can't tell you exactly how to enter service mode, but just google the model like "brand model service mode".

I suggest you try using the factory default reset option before mucking with service mode.

Sounds like the picture is oversampling a bit. I had the same issue on one of my old TVs when I was playing GTAIV and fixed it by going into the service menu. Hopefully your TV has a picture option to change it without having to track down the service menu.

Has anyone of this worked for you? I'm just curious at this point.
