Core 2 Duo is enough for now, just not later.

    Confirmed by this website

    http://gamelife.sitemix.jp/blog/2009...1%A3%E5%BC%B5/

    - FF14 currently runs on DX9, possibly DX10.
    - Compatible with 64bit Win7.
    - Core 2 Duo may proved difficult to run.
    - PC by the next 5 years' standard is the recommended system.
    - 720p on PS3, PC depends on Graphic card.
    - PS3 got separate texture version.

Looking back at how FFXI aged, they want to think and plan 5-10 years into the future and consider what technology is going to be available. The idea is to make FFXIV scale much better over time.

In 5 years we'll probably be past Core 2 Duo's and quad cores or whatever will be the standard. At that time, a Core 2 Duo will be junk compared to what's out, so if they only program based on the current "best" they're just asking for another round of "limitations" to frustrate players and programmers. FFXIV needs to be flexible enough to support the next generation of machines.

It doesn't mean it won't run on your current setup.

Also, yes, this is an old interview, the content in the link was posted Oct. 1st.

I have a duo, sucks to be me, although I'm not sure I trust the source of this info completely. I'm pretty sure SE themselves still don't know what the fuck is going on with FF14 lol.

I hope they actually know what they're talking about, does this mean it'll actually be optimized to utilize all 4 cores unlike most games?

This info was taken from an interview with producer Hiromichi Tanaka back at TGS which was vague to say the least.

720p on PS3. Most PS3 games only display in 720p... PC will vary depending on what you can handle.

Uhh, why? The vast majority of Ps3 games are 720p native, including FF13.

    ?

Hmm... i bought this computer in august 2008 and it was suppose to be able to support any game for the next 5-6 years.... Can anyone confirm that this laptop will be able to play FFXIV?

    http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/gate...-32976305.html

This is an Exact replica of what i have... cost me 2 fucking grand.
If theres a way to upgrade something in order to play .. let me know.

Btw i also plan to play on ps3 becuase theres less risk of hacking/loggers,etc so its no big deal but i bought this laptop so that i would be on top of gaming specs in the future.

Not a big computer guy but it appears i cant since it says Core 2 but just want a confirmed answer and solution if possible.

Whoever told you that lied to your face. No computer can claim to support games 5 to 6 years down the road, technology advances too fast for that to be possible.

No, probably not. The graphics card on that is already pretty outdated and it's not a very fast computer anymore by today's standards. Again, technology moves fast, etc.

Your first mistake was buying a laptop for computer gaming. They're weaker by default for obvious reasons.

I know this is going to come as a shocker, but if someone wants a computer capable of playing FF14... buy one when the game comes out.

Eh... damn guess he just told me that to convince me to buy it.(Best buy guy)

Can i upgrade parts on this computer to be able to play instead of buying a whole new laptop? or will it cost the amount of a new computer for parts.

Well its not exactly for just gaming i use it for college mostly and internet at since the desktop we have is from 1960.

    Let me know thanks.

I wouldnt freak out just yet. FFXIV is still in alpha. I would wait for an official SE release on required specs before asking whether or not your PC can handle this game. None knows how old this information is. Nor does anyone know how accurate it is. Hold tight and enjoy your PC man.

Speaking as someone who knows that his PC will definately not be able to run that game... If you intend to play this game on a PC, but do not think your PC can handle it, wait for an official release of required specs before purchasing a new PC. If you drop 2grand on a PC now, thee is a good chance that your PC will be able to handle this game. However incase it doesnt, and your current PC is suiting your current needs. Save your money.

Also, there is PS3. PS3 is a beast of a machine. It is also only 300 dollars. (lolonly) so you have that option. Sure, PS3 lacks the addons that players will develop. You know, things like windower addons... and if certain wow players come over to play... things like DBM... you will have a reliable method of playing for a fraction of the cost of a capable PC. Not only that, but consoles tend to be more secure. There will definately be a lot of unsavory people out there who will try to hack you. So, a PS3 is not as bad of an option as some PC users (for ffxi) would think.

Any way you look at it, people will have a shit storm. People hate shelling out cash, especialy as much that is needed for a PC. People will need to upgrade, some will also raise holy hell because they recently bought a PC that wont run FFXIV. Again, if you are going to purchase a PC in the next 6 months, and intend on running FFXIV on that machine, wait for the official requirements.

The ones in this article seem to be speculation at this moment, speculation off an interview at the TGS.

Laptop parts are typically not upgradable, because almost everything is tied in to the motherboard. That's why desktops are so much better, because you can upgrade parts for a couple years to avoid buying a new machine every other year.
