Liscense worth 50 bucks?

My driver's license expires this year and I honestly haven't driven in the past 5+ years and have no plans to do so anytime in the near and/or distant future. Is it even worth the 50 bucks it costs to renew the damn thing?

How long would the renewed license last? Also depends how easily/quickly it can be renewed at a later date if the need to be a driver ever comes up for some reason.

If you don't drive, then it is of no use. You can always renew it when you need to drive somewhere. I'm pretty sure an expired license can't be used for identification purposes, like getting carded at a bar etc, but the doorman man not check it.

I have to drive somewhere everyday, so the fee is very small to the amount of use I get out of it. Shit is situational.

Well it's always nice to at least have a valid state issued ID. And sure, it's 50 dollars, but it's not like it's 50 dollars per year. It's 50 every few years, so that's not so bad overall. And besides, the need to drive could come up unexpectedly.

Not sure how long it would last, but the one that was issued to me 8-12-03 expires at 5-20-10 and I'm honestly even in a car an average of once a month, if that. Nigga's a cyclist, yo.

Well maybe if you had a drivers license you wouldn't have to steal so many bikes.

It's 9 years, or at least mine is. Might be 10, because mine was expired (oops) when I renewed it a few weeks ago. So it's 5 bucks a year (roughly).

Arizona must be fucked up or something but my license was issued 07/28/2005, when I first got it, and expires 08/19/2053.

Aside from driving, would it be mandatory for anything? I don't drink or smoke, so buying those types of things wouldn't be a concern.

Need ID to do things like open a bank account, cash checks, really anything financial or legal. But then again, you could just get a government issue photo ID, though I'm not sure that would be much cheaper.

A valid photo ID is useful in its own right, but I'm not sure how much a state-issued ID card would cost or how long it would last vs. a driver's license. I'd look into it if you're worried about losing the driver's license as a valid photo ID.

50 bucks for a multi year identification is dirt cheap. Why is this even a question? It's FIFTY DOLLARS. Sure, you don't drink, but what if some friends or a romantic interest want to go out to a club or a bar one night to relax and you can't get in? Same situation if a small band comes to town and is playing at a local music venue...no id...no entrance. And again, what if you do need to drive for some reason down the road, then it's already taken care of.

And as the poster above me said, you usually need multiple forms of id or proof of residence and such for legal things. Sometimes other forms can be hard to come by, and a drivers license is an easy way to knock one off the list.

Yes, you could get a state issued id, but how much cheaper are those? One person said a license ends up being 5$ per year, even if a state id is 3$ a year why not chalk up the extra 20$ just in case?

Well, it will markedly increase your chances of having sex with anyone over the age of 14, and save your family and friends having to lie and tell inquisitive folks you had a couple of DWIs, as that is less embarrassing than an adult willingly giving up the opportunity to provide transportation for others and travel outside of biking range.

^This and you also need a photo ID for airport security, & probably lots of other things. It doesn't hurt to keep your license as an ID.

Well, like I said, driving isn't the issue. I guess I can do it for ID purposes though. As far as driving goes, car payments, insurance, gas, ect, I'd rather live w/o.

Can't you just get a basic ID for all that stuff? I needed to get one when I was taking my SAT this year and it was only like $12.

Renewing my drivers license last year cost me 20 bucks (I'm in CA), so I'm amazed it would cost 50 elsewhere
