    Idea for a honeymoon destination

My fiancee and I are planning our honeymoon at the moment. It was going to be Punta Cana but now she thinks she just wants to go somewhere in the states possibly, or to London, Paris, Spain, or England... Could anyone give me any ideas. We enjoy architecture, art, city life, culture. I don't want to spend tons of money either. I know places such as Paris can cost alot but I still know I can afford it. If you can I would appreciate some recommendations as well as if you've visited there, things to do, etc.

Someone say... Punta Cana? I'm biased, but personally I love the beaches of the Dominican Republic. You cannot go wrong with going to the Caribbean. London/Paris/Spain/England all sound fine, but your fiancee will love you forever if you take her to the beach.

Also, sex on the beach (specifically when the sun is setting) is amazing. However, it depends on when you're going. Personally I love going to Punta Cana at random times... i.e, I don't go whenever there would be a lot of people there. I hate crowded beaches :/

I wouldn't suggest London as a honeymoon location. I may be bias because I live right next to the place, but it's reaaaallllyy not a honeymoon location. Nice for a holiday though.

Ever considered somewhere like Vienna in Austria? My girlfriend and I are planning on going there at the end of summer and it looks like a great place to visit if you're into architecture, art, city life and culture.

I've been to London, I really enjoyed it. The architecture, for the most part, is fairly new and a lot of the living areas look the same. There are some amazing monuments though, especially the Victoria memorial. I really enjoyed the National Gallery, but I honestly found most of the museums to be inferior to museums in NYC. I guess I'm a bit spoiled. That being said, there is a LOT to do. I was there 9 days and I exhausted by the end of the day as I tried to see everything and anything I could.

There are a lot of places I've yet to see that I want(being in and paying for college sucks like that) including Prague, Thailand, Japan, Brazil.

See we thought about Punta Cana for the last few weeks. We've been to plenty of beaches. We've gone to the beaches of Fiji once with my parents for a vacation and loved it. Not to mention all the over beaches we've been to around the US. So the only reason we say no to beaches atm is simply because its what we ALWAYS do.

I will look into Austria. I have family in Spain and have been there a few times, but never for fun. Mainly just to visit. We plan to go somewhere for around 4 days. Since we have to come back and begin adding furniture to the new house.

A while ago I went to Costa Rica and it is my favorite spot to go (and I'm currently pissed because everyone in my family is going next year, except me -.-). If you like beaches and wildlife I really recommend Costa Rica. They also have great hotspring Spas.

Of all the places you listed Spain is the more interesting out of my experience but if you like architecture, art and culture I would think Florence or Rome, Italy. Plus real Italian food

Ill try to recommend things based on your interests. One thing to note, is that if you dont mind staying 30 minutes from the actual destination, you can save a but load of money. There are many good finds, and you might actually be pleasently suprized by the places to stay. I know i found one place a little bit away from the destination in question that i found to be absolutely wonderful.

Ever think about Rome? Since you mentioned architecture, art, city life, culture, this was the first area that i thought of. You can visit there for less than Paris. Of course, if you wanted to spend money you sure as hell can. In addition, if you rent a car, you can drive out to visit many other fascinating places. However, you might find that Rome has too much to offer. Its difficult to soak everything form that city in; it is especially dificult to do that with just one week to burn.

Greece is also a fantastic destination. I would definately consider Greece to be one of the most affordable options. Especially now, they are almost begging for buisness over there. So, many of the prices are lower, or the prices can be negotiated down easily. Also, Greece will more than fullfill your criterion. There is plenty of culture, art, and architecture to be found. Its a fantastic trip that bursts with romantic places to go.

You already mentioned Paris. Thats a solid choice. I have never been there. I hear it is nice, but very espencive. Personally, i prefer various places more than Paris, so that would be why i have never been there.

What time of the year do you plan on going? That would help as well. Many places become much busier during specific times of the year. Do you want to go during the more busy times, or the slower times?

I think from what I remember it's pretty expensive to travel to Europe in the summer isn't it?

I apoligize for the double post, perhaps someone will post before me, who knows. But Spain is a wonderful place to visit. Spain, is possibly, as underrated as Greece.

Another fantastic place to think about is Portugal. Not many people think of Portugal, but it has everything. It has a deep history, and it is reflected within the architecture, art, and culture of the area. Being exposed to so much Ocean, you will experience a lot of the things associated with a seafaring nation. Fantastic seafood, old ships, castles in the middle of cities. (cities out grew the castles) This place explodes with culture. It ranks up there in the places you can visit in europe.

Wherever you go just make sure you don't sign yourself up to too many tours or anything that requires you to be there at a certain time, etc. Making the trip adhere to to a schedule all the time kind of kills the honeymoon so don't lose sight that you are there for your honeymoon.

Go to Tuscany in Italy or Rome. I did a tour of Italy not to long ago and it was absolutely amazing and I would go again in a heartbeat. You can do the trip fairly cheaply in the offseason, and it would perfectly fit your desires for architecture, art, city life, etc.

i give a vote for greece or italian countryside. things to see, great food to eat, and a bit more of a relaxed feeling.
rome is also a great destination, but you will really want more than just 4 days. there are so many things to see that it may be a bit too rushed unless you have only a few select things picked out to see/do, same thing for paris in my opinion.

Arpil is a nice time to go to europe. Its at the begining of the tourist season. The air is cool. And, like trees, the areas are coming back to life. Regardless of your choice in destination, youll have a wonderful time. If your interested in exploring the arcitecture, art, and culture of areas you dont hear much about i would reccomend Portugal, Spain, and Greece. They are not the big three, being paris/london/rome but every single person who takes my advice on one of these three nations has come back loving their trip.

The thing about Portugal, Spain, and Greece is that each one suprizes you in so many ways. Most people have no idea about the memorable treasures you will come across exploring these countries.

For example, imagine the view as you tour a castle in Portugal. Looking out to see sprawling, bustling, old city (no, no skyscrapers im talking rustic) and beyond the city you see nothing but blue ocean.

Another example would be, the rolling fields of Spain's vineyards. Its small towns, and examining the Muslim influence on its culture, architecture, and art. You know, little things like on the older buildings you will not see any living creatures. Youll see beautiful geometric shapes on the older buildings, but nothing living. And Tolledo, oh my. That is one of my favorite places, but forgive me if i massacred the spelling. You can visit the old armories. And, visit the still functioning smiths, producing swords and armor which rival even Germanies style and beauty. There are also plenty of celebrations that time of the year in Spain. If the mood strikes you, you can even take a stroll through the fields of caper bushes that pepper the shoreline. It would be a wonderful trip.

And, Greece. I really think everyone knows that Greece is beautiful, but it has fallen out of...vouge. You can stand in the foot hills of Mt. Olympus (yeah Mt. Olympus exists). And the Olive trees! They are very pretty. And is a wonderful day trip to take. Greece is much much more than its ancient monuments. That being said, the ancient monuments, and/or museums, rival those found in almost any area of the world. You know, places like the Pantheon, and various temples. If you do decide for greece though, you need to realize that the various ruins are always being maintained. A pro-tip is to check on these sites before making your trip. I really would not like to see your heart being set on a certain destination but not be able to get up close to it.

    I hope that helps.

Not to mention Portugal is also probably your cheapest bet as far as Europe goes. Then again, nightlife sucks bigtime, people smell (a lot) during summer, and good luck finding anyone with decent English. However the architecture, especially old Lisbon and most of Porto surrounding the river (which I'd suggest for a short stay) is very captivating (for those into it) and there's some magnificent views.

I myself wouldn't, well, come here (>.>), and as for suggestions I'd say maybe Istanbul? There has to be a reason it got named cultural capital of 2010 ;3

Edit: forgot to mention, the old grumpy people, they're like a plague - one you can't get away from.
