    [PS3] Fat Princess

Didn't see a dedicated thread for this when I searched, so apologies if I missed it.

There was a new interview posted on the Playstation site with the devs.

Fat Princess Interview - SCEA Producers Answer Your Questions - PlayStation.Blog

One of the highlights is that Voice Chat is confirmed. Also, in the comments it was stated that it will be push to talk.

Your wish is granted. Press R2 to chat.
I think everything else (class upgrading and possibly the map?) was already known.

    orly?

I guess that whole interview about there being classes and advance classes and two hordes of players against each other online with voice chat capability's is only used to talk to your NPC team mates.

Will probably be the first multiplayer-focused PSN-title I'm going to pick up.

Been looking at Crash Commando, but I'm assuming barely anyone plays that online these days for my pick-up-and-play online gaming fix.

Glad to hear about voice-chat, and PTT as well. Hate when I have to hear someone's entire phone-call conversation because he was a cheapass and didn't get a headset with a mute button because the game sported always-on voice chat. (hate that so much...)

well no shit. i was referring to local co-op. I don't have many RL friends that own a PS3 and it would have been fun to play with them on one system.

So is this supposed to be like an RTS or what?

    Looks pretty interesting though.

Sort of, watch these videos from GDC, they'll give you a good idea of what the game is all about.

So if you're playing by yourself, do you just control units individually and let the AI do the rest? Can you switch between units?

Bit of lag online with regards to weapon swings, and targetting specific things is a bitch currently, as well as there being frame-rate issues (at 1080p anyways, not tried 720 yet) when things get busy. Hope that'll all be fixed before final comes out.

Also hard as hell to find a game currently, so I've been playing with bots offline.

Anything less than being far and away the best PSN/XBL game ever released will be a disappointment to me. It couldn't look more awesome, I hope it plays half as good as it looks. Been waiting for this for damn near a year now.

For the beta, online is restricted to only Tues/Thurs from 6-10pm PST which kinda blows.

With what's given, I'm actually quite liking the game, which is saying a bit since 95% of my playtime is with with my 31 imaginary friends (I love the game's re-wordings for everything in the menus. "Bragging Rights" as the leaderboard text....). I find myself gravitating towards the worker class, primarily because I seem to enjoy keeping the fort up to snuff and upgrading the hat machines, rather than getting swarmed by the other team as I try to ladder into their fortress.

One of the features I like as far as PS3 games go is that the game bloody knows who on your friend list actually owns the damn game, so you don't end up sending blind invites to people who don't own it. I really don't get how it's so hard for developers to implement a proper friends system into their PSN-enabled titles, seriously.

Anyone know who does the announcer's voice at all? It's so damn familiar, but I can't pinpoint where the heck I've heard him from before.

For the curious, here's the readme they attached to the beta key e-mails:
    Spoiler: show
    Hi Everyone!

We are very happy to announce our Fat Princess BETA is on the way!

Here are a few things that we wanted to let you know about:

1 – We plan to focus a concentrated amount of playing Fat Princess every Tuesday and Thursday evenings, between 6pm and 10pm PST.

2 – If you don’t see any games available, you can start your own multiplayer game by selecting PLAY WITH OTHERS > CONTROL FREAKS > CREATE GAME on the menus.

3 – There are two game modes available to play on one map. The two modes are Rescue The Princess, and Team Deathmatch. The rules of Rescue The Princess are listed below.

4 - This is the most important point... HAVE FUN!!

Here's a "How To" guide to help you get familiar with the game!

    Fat Princess Gameplay Basics

The premise of the game is simple: red team versus blue team, and each side has their own castle. You must kill players on the other team and rescue your beloved princess from their clutches.

When you start the game, you will notice a princess in the dungeon of your castle who belongs to the other team. Your job is to help your team rescue your own princess from the enemy's dungeon, while preventing the other team from rescuing their own princess from your castle. You start off as a villager, and can switch to one of the five character classes by picking up the hat for that class, conveniently lying in front of a class-hat-producing machine somewhere in the castle or anywhere on the battlefield.

The default CONTROLS are very simple. Press X to jump, Square to attack (hold to charge), and Circle to pick something up. The L1 shoulder button can also be used to lock on to an enemy or object, and the L2 button can be held to zoom in. And of course, Left and Right on the D-pad allow your character to say various humorous taunts and expressions. If you have a bluetooth headset or a PS3EYE, press R2 for voice chat!

The five character classes are Warrior, Ranger, Worker, Mage, and Priest. The Warrior starts with a sword and shield, the Ranger a bow and arrow, the Mage a fireball casting spell, and the Priest has a heal ability for teammates. The Worker can gather resources by chopping down trees and mining ore and carrying it back to the castle or an outpost. Using these resources, you can build up your castle's defense and upgrade your hat machines to give your characters a little extra stopping power in battle!

To change classes, pick up a hat, either from a hat machine or from the battlefield, with the Circle button - and poof, instant makeover.

    Fat Princess - Advanced Gameplay

To make it harder for the other team to rescue their princess, you can feed her mystical cursed cake that magically appears outside the castle. The princess will grow in size for every few pieces of cake you feed her, and will grow multiple times. To feed the princess, pick up a piece of cake with the Circle button, take it to her, and present it to her with the Square button. But the magical effects of the cake wear off over time, so someone on your team will need to keep feeding her. The larger she is, the more difficult she is to carry. You and your teammates can help carry the princess by pressing the Circle button near her.

Workers can build things like doors to prevent enemies from entering their castle, ladders, springboards and catapults to grant access to the enemy castle, and even upgrade the hat machine for each of the character classes to add additional weapons, attacks, and abilities, giving your team an edge in battle. Warriors get a piercing halberd, Rangers get an old-fashioned shotgun, Mages receive an ice ability to slow enemies, Priests get a curse ability to drain enemy health, and Workers get mini-bombs to throw at enemies. Upgrading hat machines also adds other bonuses to your team for you to find. When you pick up a hat for an upgraded class, use the Triangle button to switch between the two variations of that class.

To gather resources needed to build and upgrade, lock onto the tree or rock pile with L1, hold Square to charge, and release when full. When a log or piece of ore presents itself, pick it up with Circle and carry it back to either an outpost (turret somewhere on the battlefield) or a hat machine, then press Square to turn it into a useable resource. Resources are shown in the top right of the screen, with a number for metal and ore. Once you have enough resources to build or upgrade something, as noted by the green padlock that appears over an area while you are the Worker class, you can lock onto that object or area with the L1 button, then hold the Square button to start building.

Of course, at anytime you are wondering who is where, press SELECT to bring up the in-game, real-time, fancy-schmancy Strategic Map!

    HAPPY MARAUDING!

    - The Fat Princess team!

Recently got in too, having a lot of fun, even if I'm only stuck playing with bots.
Seems Kaisha is the only other person who got in, how did you get your pass?

Got mine from GameSpot during a very small window of time they had when they were taking e-mail requests. Probably the only site I know that doesn't discriminate free from paid members with regards to beta offers.

Seems the only way to play online,(outside of Tue/Thu) is by joining a friends game/hosting your own game and inviting people I found out. I'm looking for people on the playstation forums.
