It is our pleasure to announce that the next edition of VanaFest, Japan's premier Final Fantasy XI fan event, will be held on Sunday, February 28th 2010 in Tokyo!

Attendees can expect this year's event to be a veritable goldmine of mind-blowing news. Development and operation team members will engage in a talk session and divulge juicy pieces of information such as new content scheduled for upcoming version updates, planned job improvements, and other exciting milestones for the year 2010. The evolution of Final Fantasy XI is far from over, folks!

But save your awestruck faces for the special announcement...and be sure to hang on to your seats when it comes!

Even those unable to attend need not be disheartened! All the latest news and developments announced at the festival will be delivered to you hot off the press, so stay tuned!

Crafting is influenced by moon, day of the week, and time of the day, albeit slightly.

Having 100 Fishing slightly decreases Enemy's Critical Hit Rate.

The direction you face while fighting a monster is important. For instance, Beetles are particularly weak when struck with a blow from the north!

You can transfer characters from FFXI to FFXIV if you pay a $200 fee. Only a few specific items carry over and since there is no level-system planned for FF14, it'll be the same as a basic starting character in that respect!

Ambrosia adds Treasure Hunter +7.

Treasure Hunter slowly degrades after it is put on a monster, therefore if you simply tag a monster in the beginning, it will not have Treasure Hunter applied upon it's death. Also, Treasure Hunter is not 100% proc.

Absolute Virtue's Meteor is weakened by casting a spell of every element on him at the same time. (HOLY BIO2 FLARE FLOOD BURST QUAKE TORNADO FREEZE BY YOUR POWERS COMBINED)

You will never be able to recruit Beastmen Freelances, despite the evidence left in the DATA files.

We have a list of people who use 3rd party windowing programs, and as of this announcement have banned each and every one of them.

It is possible for a 10,000 piece to drop from a Union Casket if the entire wave of the General's Beastmen is forced to retreat without a single death from an NPC or PC. This can only happen in the Beastmen Strongholds.

We're making Besieged more like Campaign, with the forces of Al Zhabi regularly invading Mamook, Halvung, and Arrapago Reef. Each Serpent General will lead their our own troop in addition to the Empire's Volunteers. Raubahn will also make an appearance if the Empire's Defense rating is high enough when Al Zhabi is attacked.

Excalibur's additional effect is being removed in a future update, and instead Aegis will have a chance to proc Spiritual Damage proportional to Max HP in a similar fashion to Reprisal. This effect will proc regardless of spikes present on the Paladin.

Ninjas are receiving Throwing WS, including one that works like Atonement.

Red Mage is being deleted from the game and Refresh is being given to White Mages. Scholars will receive Phalanx. Dispel will also be added to a Black Mage's repertoire.

Puppetmaster's Hand-to-Hand skill will be increased to a previously unheard of S ranking. This will allow them to receive a Hand-to-Hand skill of 300 before merits and gear are accounted for. In accordance, we are nerfing Hand-to-Hand damage calculations.

Blue Mages will be able to learn special NM only moves, but only if they are the intended target of the attack, and survive.

seeing as its a VanaFest, i think it'll be FFXI related only, with XIV maybe getting a bit of news on the side..

The special announcement sounds interesting.. but it better not be like '2 new avatars! for real!' cos that would be lame..

seeing as the ACP/AMK/ASA scenarios have all been released now, its most likely that they've come up with something that will push FFXI into 2010...

my guess is that if its a really huge special announcement, theyre either gonna announce more add-ons, or we might actually see a full new expansion (created by the matrix team, perhaps)

I'm still kinda puzzled about how Besiged just works and Campaign is still a pile of broken bullshit 2,5 years after its release. And they built a whole addon on the latter...

Also i wouldn't expect too many XIV announcements on an XI fanfest.
Maybe they'll finally reveal a new Avatar to be released in one of the next version updates! :/

I'm still hoping for a US one later - the lack of ANY mention is a bit worrying but still....and I don't go for the content, I go to meet LS friends and have a good excuse take a few days of work and have a nice trip.

Vana ★ Fes 2010 ~ 8 shûnen da! zenin shûgô (or "8th anniversary! Everyone is invited!") will take place on february 28th 5pm (JST) in Nippon Seinenkan room, Tokyo. 1114 seats are envisaged for japanese fans.

Program was partially announced:
- Discussion with developers
- Mini concert
- Real ☆ Mog Bonanza
- Secret Session (FFXIV related)

"Discussion with developers" will talk about FFXI (many) future updates; Famitsu revealed there'll enough content until autumn 2010. There might be a surprise.

Players coming at the event will receive in-game chocobo cap for their characters and a REAL tenugui towel (japanese towel in cotton).

Nice to see this happening again and I look forward to what is being announced.

I'd say the time is right for a new expansion at the end of the year since WotG should be finished by then.

At least it being Japanese, we will get some real answers and no cheese sandwich recipes lol

However, I now strongly believe the next version update will be March 9th (so the people at Vanafest can test the new areas / content) and all us US FF13 fans are going to be pretty conflicted on what to play :D
