Girlfriend wants to buy it, but I know nothing of the American counterpart. Is it just as broken as the Japanese version, or did they fix the plethora of infinites?

From what I have seen, most of the infinities I saw are gone now. If there are new ones made I haven't seen it yet but still seen some ridiculous combos capable of taking out most of your health (of course, this was done in training mode and without Mega Crash; not to mention by JP people).

While many broken incidences are gone, some new ones seem to be arising (hi2u Saki). Nevertheless, there is more good than bad in this version in regards to the gameplay.

As most people are turned off at the start toward these "new" and "strange" characters, the most common teams consist of Ryu/Chun-Li/Zero/Batsu.

Assuming your GF wants it, pretty sure she will just be playing casually and amongst others she knows? If that is the case, I doubt there is need to fear as the game is newbie friendly compared to the other VS fighters.

Karas and Zero? That didn't stop Karas from being on a tier on his own in brokenness in the previous version. Zero is pretty good at mindgaming with his dashes. Haven't researched much on him outside of that in terms of combos.

Heck, I use Roll fairly often and she was pretty decent in the last version and even better now.

Batsu has confusing moves for the opponent to defend against at times of to low or high block. Still gives me a bit of trouble still.

Joe the Condor is a bad ass but his character-specific combos are brutal to master and pull off. Regardless, he is still too awesome for me to not use paired up with Tekkaman Blade and Polymar.

She is prolly the most abusable projectile spammer making Ryu look like a pussy cat. Standing bullet/aerial bullet into OTG bullet and grenade.

Unblockable super into her diagonal level 1 is pretty slick as well. So glad they fixed that for giants at least

That charged shot was changed so it can't juggle that effectively and people fall faster in general so it shouldn't work anymore
