    New laptop for Gaming

looking into getting a new laptop for mostly general use, as well of moderate gaming, like FFXI, an maybe FFXIV. I know the requirements for FFXIV aren't known yet, so I want to be prepared. I have been scanning newegg and have these possibilities. Any information and suggestions would be appriciated.

First one with an i5 looks badass based on the specs, the resolution might be a little low though, idk

I bought the first generation Vostro 1500 with the 8400m GS video upgrade and it's been pretty solid. The only beef I had with it was that the battery died after 2 years or so. I guess I didn't really know how to treat the battery correctly, I figured if I just used it plugged in all the time, it wouldn't affect the battery. meh oh well

799 price they promote is quite misleading.

You'll require a disc driver (it doesn't have one), 4 gigs and a core duo processor at least which bumps up the price to 1150.

Also the only Core 2 Duo processor that you're allowed to pick for that Alienware laptop isn't even that good. You're better off with that first Asus, if you're able to find one with similar specs and a higher resolution - even better.

the 1st asus is probably the best choice. Good dedicated graphics card, nice processor.

the second one with a 220gt, not a gaming card.

Stay away from i7 books, since they are either so underclocked its lolslow or have 4 minute battery life.

I've played with these a few days during the testing phase. These are pretty great notebooks. Games tested on it were COD MW2 and Crisis. Games played very well with no lag issues at all. I dunno what your price range is but here it is: http://www.frys.com/product/6076208

Agreed. I have one of these and it's been disappointing. My 3 year old Core2 Duo blows it away.

    So much for quadcore.

Sorry to necro from the ancient history that is the second page, but as tax returns came in (yay), I've been thinking about buying a laptop (gonna be in school for a lot of the next few years and I've yet to not have a shit ton of time on campus in between classes) that would not only play ffxi well, but would be inconceivable that it would not play new games that we don't have specs for (FFXIV). This laptop looks decent, but I'm worried that it doesn't have enough ram (4gigs), but I know shit about computers; is that enough to be comfortable for the next few years? Or should I just wait until FFXIV specs come out? Money burning a hole, etc.
