Viacom Pulling "The Daily Show" off Hulu

    http://gizmodo.com/5484190/viacom-pu...+%28Gizmodo%29

Viacom realized The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are two of the top shows on Hulu. But Viacom doesn't see enough financial incentive in keeping them on Hulu.

Do you think this is the beginning of a trend with other networks pulling other shows?

they are still up on dailyshow.com? Who cares? And they don't see incentive cause they dont own a share of Hulu the way Disney, Fox, GE(or whoever the fuck owns NBC now) do, so no I doubt other shows will get pulled.

I don't think Viacom is part of any of the companies that own stake in Hulu like the person above me said; plus they're still up on Comedy Central's website. Once Hulu goes to a pay service, you might see them go back but obviously if there is only some sort of monetary gain from doing so.

As for other networks pulling shows? That's largely dependent on when Hulu becomes a pay service and how much money it's going to generate for the networks. I've heard that if/when Comcast acquires NBC that they plan on pulling on NBC broadcasts from Hulu and allowing them ONLY for Comcast subscribers to view for free. Al Franken is making a push to force Comcast to make all NBC programming available on the internet, but I find it very unlikely it will actually work based on the discussions I've had with a professor I know well.

The draw of Hulu, for me anyway, is the convenience of being able to subscribe to all of the shows I watch in one place(and getting alerts when shows are available). For people like me they just tripled the number of sites I have to visit to watch the same number of shows. My solution? Fuck them, I won't watch anymore.

I'm fairly certain Viacom was getting a portion of ad revenue from Hulu. The most likely problem is that they didn't feel they were getting enough because of all the traffic their shows gave Hulu. Just another shining example of Viacom being greedy assholes.

Hulu is between NBC Universal, Fox, and ABC. If Viacom was part of the venture it must have slipped by me as I just did a research paper, that was in part dedicated to the business venture of Hulu. Plus I can't imagine why CBS programming wouldn't be on it if it was.

    *EDIT*
Brain fart, I forgot that Viacom and CBS and split in 2005. Ignore that.

    *Double EDIT*
Yes it looks like Viacom was looking for money out of The Daily Show since it's the third most watched program on Hulu, according to the NYT. Whether it was Viacom being greedy or not, or trying to get the same type of cut the top two shows got it doesn't say; but Hulu is apparently taking the high road and redirecting The Daily Show and The Colbert Report videos over to comedy central instead of removing content entirely it seems.
