Wrestling.. oh god I'm gonna get flamed.

Normally I dont watch wrestling, at least since its gone down hill since Stone Cold, Mick Foley, and the Rock left..

But I did watch it the other day when I found out stone cold was guest hosting, I must say I was extremely dissapointed in his role in the show. Was at least expecting a stunner.

    Flame away..

I actually found myself watching a little bit of wrestling this week and it was interesting to see what's going on in the "industry".. not sure if I'll go back for more i guess it depends if I'm in the mood.

TNA Impact - Saw parts of this on Monday and it was.. well.. impressive. I think the older burned superstars of the WWF/WCW era are trying to mount a serious challenge to the WWE. The internal storyline seemed pretty solid too.

WWE NXT - Only watched the first few minutes of this show, but it's an interesting concept rooted in how Ultimate Fighter works - they team up a no-name rookie (no nickname that is) with an established mentor and throw them in the ring together.

    Fixed that for ya.

I stopped watching wrestling after Stone Cold and the Rock hit the bricks and HHH was headlining every event while banging Stephanie McMahon on the off-days.

I also hear Vince isn't leaving his company to Linda, Shane, or Stephanie, when he dies. What a dick.

Anyway, I don't bother with it anymore because it's just not entertaining. Vince had a good idea and he ran it into the ground after he bought WCW. He could have made much more money having two brands and reaping in profits from two separate shows but he would rather drive WCW (long-time rival) into the ground and prove a point to all the people who left him for it than to ever actually do something intelligent.

I have no respect for the man or his product. I hope it dies out and the last person watching the lights go out is him while everyone goes to the next best thing.

Life long wrestling fan here, but I will admit the quality of wrestling has been on a downward slope for the last several years. There is too wide a gap between the older veterans and the newer wrestlers that most casual fans just cant give wrestling a chance. Plus Vince is never one to listen to his audience as hes one to tell fans what he thinks they want.

You got TNA trying to make a name for itself but its hard to be taken serious when you got a roster full of great talent and we are stuck seeing Hogan's face for almost half the entire show. Sure, Hogan is a legend, but hes an OLD legend that simply needs to stay off camera and stick to the stuff in the back. WWE has got in a more PG direction so all the fun violence isnt there anymore. They got NXT that replaced ECW thats alright but its nothing compared to the Attitude years of wrestling.

I pretty much watch wrestling for the same reason I played FFXI for so long. My loyalty to something that at one point gave me great satisfaction overrides my common sense to walk away when its not as fun anymore.

And to answer the Vince not leaving WWE to his family thing, Linda and Shane are both already not in the WWE anymore. Linda quit to try and run for Senate (or Congress, cant remember which one) in CT, and Shane resigned at the new year. Shane is rumored to actually have had meetings with Dana White of UFC fame, so how knows. Stephanie and HHH look to be the heir apparents to WWE once Vince is done.

I've been watching TNA regularly after they signed Hogan. They might be rehashing one too many old story-lines, but I've actually enjoyed watching Impact the past few weeks.

The younger stars really make the brand though. Those guys are just fucking nuts, especially in the X-Division.

WWE is just beyond stale and it is just a HHH j/o session half the time. Pushing Cena got old fast and anytime good talent from TNA jumped ship to WWE (or back to) Vince would do dick with them.

WWE has been retarded ever since the whole "Raw vs. Smackdown" concept was implemented. Haven't paid much attention to it but it just seems to lack the charisma it once had, where is the random telling off someone to go lick a monkey's nipple!? HBK and the Undertaker are in the twilight of their careers, HHH is way over-exposed, and that Cena guy is garbage. Tuned in to watch the Stone Cold guest host and was very disappointed.

Saw TNA recently and the shit looks even more pathetic. nWo was the shit in it's prime but for fucks sake let it die! Implement more X Division matches, let the young talent get the experience on the mic, and let them cut more promos. Old/Alcoholic/Crippled drug-addicted wrestlers from the 90's flopping around in the ring makes for shitty entertainment. Hogan and Bischoff are doing more then enough in destroying the brand, Vince doesn't have to do shit.

I liked how they played it too.. you have Hogan as the face of the company who is also reluctant to both get out of the ring and let go of the past, and Bischoff acting all serious by setting matches behind the stage and trying to talk Hogan down.

Really smart story-telling, but then again they are the generation that really did it the best when they were in their prime. Who from that old-school group is left in WWE besides McMahon?

Thankfully the "Band" (aka nWo) angle has taken a backseat for the most part. Pac looks like he still has a little something, but Hall just looks fucking awful. I think it was last week or something, Nash called Hall out to the ring and he took his sweet time and the crowd started chanting "Hall is wasted". So I'm hoping TNA knows no one gives a shit. They can be written out of TNA completely if they lose in their PPV match (they lose, they don't get contracts) and I'm hoping they do because it is just awful.

Thankfully more attention has been placed on A.J.'s Flair-styled heel turn. Abyss is finally getting to kick ass again, even if the gimmick is pretty lol worthy (Hogan's WWE Hall of Fame ring gives him "power"). Dinero (aka Elijah Burkes) has been absolutely fantastic on the mic and in the ring and is getting a big push. Jeff Hardy is back and beat A.J. in a non-title this past Monday.

There's definitely some potential there. Kaz is back as well and it looks like the X-Division is getting a much needed push back into the spotlight. The Knockout division produces some quality matches as well more often than not.

Honestly just J.R. and King I believe.

They are playing the "old school" angles in interesting ways. Abyss is doing the "Hulking up" bit now, but instead of no-selling punches, he no-sells chair shots. A.J. is the new Flair, but he'll still go high flying when needed, although this past Monday he pulled off a funny move of acting like he was going to suicide dive, stopped and laughed at the crowd for getting excited.

It also looks like they are trying to get the Sting/Hogan rivalry back in some form. Except this time Sting is the heel in the situation. I've never seen him pull heel off well, but I must say I was impressed with the beatdowns he delivered on Hogan, Abyss, and RVD.

They know what works, and like I said before, it is interesting enough to keep me entertained. Get rid of the Nasty Boys and Scott Hall and I'm happy TBH.

Nothing wrong with banging Stephanie McMahon, I would have (circa her figure around 2000, I'm sure shes larger and old now) but wrestling seriously died when Stone Cold retired. The Rock didn't carry it, Mick Foley didn't carry it. Stone Cold made wrestling - without it, I think the WWE loses at least $1 Billion in revenue over the years of his career.

NXT is actually rather good. They're building up a good feud with Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson if you want to check his old matches) and the Miz. His match against Jericho on the first episode was rather good as well.

The Rock could have carried wrestling but he chose to go the movie route instead. The Attitude Era where Rock & Austin were in their prime was easily the high point of wrestling.

Yea I agree, I'm tired of the DX era. I like HBK and HHH, but they're a tag team, thats all it is. They're not some coalition anymore like they were when they had billy gunn and road dog, they should pack it up.

But yea I agree stone cold was the center of it. I doubt it will ever be the same again. I wont lie tho i have followed it the past two months with the brett hart story line in there. That was pretty interesting.

Off topic, but did anybody see the "Wrong side of Town" movie with RVD and Batisita in it? It wasnt that bad, but it really made me realize how much I miss RVD

Well, if you miss RVD, head over to TNA. He debuted with them last week.

I'm with the dude up there^

As soon as HHH started headlining....count me out. He is the lamest "superstar" the WWF has ever had. Also, when the Undertaker started dressing in western clothes and riding a Harley to the ring...yeah, how retarded are these people?

Long live Jake the Snake, Hogan, Sting, and the Ultimate Warrior days!!!

Edge is the only reason I watch Smackdown. As for RAW, it's pretty much for the guest host each week... I really miss The Rock and Stone Cold as well...

    Amen.

Last time i really watched wrestling was the 4 Horsemen era on the NWA/WcW with Lex Lugar and Ric Flair being the champs at the time. Shit, that was like 20 years ago. I kinda got back into it in the late 90's when Hogan introduced the whole NWO black/white thing. Completely skipped the entire Raw/Rock era as i thought the WWF got lame.

I really want to root for TNA but man do they do everything so wrong. Case in point, RVD.

RVD premiered last monday on TNA. How does he do it? By being a surprise opponent for Sting, who had turned heel about 30min before. And how does the fight go? RVD sneaks in the ring, jump kicks Sting from the turnbuckle, and steals a quick pin. Thats not so bad but what happens next is. Sting then immediately gets up and proceeds to destory RVD with a bat for close to 5min straight. Any credibility RVD had going in is crushed right before your eyes in an attempt to make Sting look like a bad guy. RVD is one of the few well known wrestlers who was a free agent and you have him get owned right after he premieres. So instead of coming in with some great momentum pinning Sting, you have him look weak right off the bat (both figuratively and literally lol).

That is not how you get your wrestlers over with the crowd.

I really want to believe that Hogan and Bischoff want to get TNA to a level where they are a threat to WWE. But when any major wrestlers that could be the face of the company get buried right when they arrive, its hard to root for them. Plus notice that outside of AJ Styles, there are barely any non-former-WWE stars in the main event. And even then they saddled AJ with Flair (who I am a big fan of but really doubt he'd pick AJ to be his protege).

Yep, I just proved myself to be a wrestling dork. And yes, I know its all planned.

It has just gone down hill, it's really sad. Attitude era is where it's at.

I, too, tuned in Monday night to see Stone Cold raise hell and give stunners to everyone in the ring, and was sorely disappointed.

The PG rating WWE has been pushing is just sad. This morning I read an article that as of today, WWE is banning chairshots to the head. COOL.
