    Colorado Springs

So I just got my PCS orders to Ft. Carson, Colorado. What kind of place is this? Looks like it's part of the mid-west, am I going to have to deal with a bunch of bible-thumpers? Any natural disasters or shit like that I need to worry about?

I was there for a few weeks last summer. Seems like a pretty nice place; fairly conservative, but not GODWARRIOR level.

I don't think you'll have to worry about the people, almost everyone who lives there is either in the military or military family (there are what, 4 or 5 bases there?) or a computer nerd in the tech industry. As for natural disasters... no? I mean it's up in the mountains so I guess you could deal with the occasional blizzard but I'd hardly classify that as a "disaster"

It's actually not up in the mountains. It's literally right on the edge of the mountain line - at the foot of Pikes Peak.

Yeah, bad choice of words on my part. It's over a mile above sea level, so its up there!

Tons of restaurants, don't know so much about the malls but I'm sure there are a couple. There's a ton of touristy places to go to around there too

Colorado springs is pretty huge, and there are lots of things to do. Like cave of the winds, garden of the gods..etc etc. I live about 45 mins-ish in Denver, but I go down there once in a while to visit family.

There is a lot to do in CO Springs.

As far as bible thumpers go, I'm pretty sure Colorado Springs is where the mega church is, where the head of the church was a meth addict and was hiring gay prostitutes. Not positive, though.

Lived in Colorado Springs for 2 years, beautiful place!!! Weather was always great, sunny there 310 some days of the year. Not sure if I got lucky but the winters were fairly nice as well, in the summers watch out for brush fires... Noticed most of the time they were always coming from one of the few forts that are around the city. Also the wind is crazy there, picks up out of no where at very high speeds.

Had a couple bible nuts living in the complex I lived at, used to drop loafs of bread off at my door >_> Big military town with peterson airforce base, fort carson, and another one? I forget now. For sure lots of strange people there.

Downtown CO springs is pretty cool, Check out The triple Nickle, Phantom canyon and there was some awesome Irish pub whos name is escaping me also. Citadel and Chapel hills malls are nice, typical malls? nothing to special I guess

Edit: FOOD!!! Check out borriello brothers Pizza and NYPD Pizza places. Check out Taste of Philly, good cheese steaks there.

Um...used to live around Denver and Boulder. I would call the springs like any CO suburb just more religious. Not the coolest place, but at least it is close to cool places!

I lived in Woodland Park, CO for 7 years, just 20 minutes west of Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs is an awesome place. There are plenty of things to do there. Garden of the Gods is amazing, with the famous Kissing Camels and balancing rock formations, you can go to Manitou Springs which is a fun little tourist-y town. You can ride the tram up to the top of Pikes Peak, you're only a couple hours drive from Breckenridge and Keystone, there's the Air Force Academy. If you go to Manitou Springs bring a jug or empty gallon of water. There's natural mineral water springs all over the place. All the drinking fountains you see have mineral water and there's a big indian statue dumping out a jug of mineral water you can go and get. Love that stuff.

I've driven through there a lot, and hung around, it's a GREAT city, and I'd love to live there if I could. Garden of the Gods is a huge rock climbing area, everyone seemed really nice, lots of stuff to do, close to Denver. I'm jealous of you right now.
