    Fax Server?

Yeah, I know, who uses fax anymore ;o But I'm actually trying to help a friend to set up fax services at work. What he wants is some sort of a fax -> email relay, where you receive fax by email, and send faxes by email.

Any recommendations for something like this?

Rightfax and eFax do this. But yeah have to buy licenses etc... few other products out there but it is kinda niche.

Oh yeah, paying is not a problem as long as it's not outrageously expensive (their company is paying for it afterall)

Thanks for the suggestions, will look into them.

You can also set up something like this internally using a FAXmodem.

But considering a phone line costs the same as efax service, there's no compelling reason to do it in-house anymore except maybe security.

these probably don't help your friend without being extra costly but here at my work we have some konica minolta bizhubs (i'm not a huge fan) that can fax directly from the printer driver, which would include Outlook, etc. if they happened to need new printers maybe this info helps.

There are also companies that manage this as a SaaS - no need to buy/procure onsite (and learn 3rd party non-core software, deal with upgrades, etc.). Some providers just pull you onto their cloud and you just build the connectors to your inhouse email, or use their interface for users to see faxes, etc.

There are benefits to owning and building on-prem solutions (especially with sensitive data, but hey, you're letting it be faxed out how bad can it be). But chucking the whole thing out to a third party with pre-built infrastructure, Telco setups, number porting, trunks, Failover/DR, and you might find that even better for your friend's company.
