Don't get her some ticky-tacky pink plastic thing. It could be a nice stuffed animal or doll, or perhaps a nice carved wood jewelry box. But stick to quality, and not too "girly".

It doesn't have to be a material thing either. It could be a picnic at a garden or a trip to the beach, or maybe you could fix up her bike and spruce it up. Do something she'll remember fondly when she grows up.

Well they can save it up for something they want like a Wii game, DS or ipod (I know this is what my 11 year old brother/sister have been doing w/ cash they have gotten for years)

I mean ultimately it depends on the child. What do you know about what she likes? Tyche's ipod suggestion seems good but if you know a bit about the girl or can find out from her parents perhaps you can come up w/ something creative/uniquely special for her... i.e. if she likes horses something w/ them, etc
