Hmm, I thought the r4 cartridge games work the same as regular ones. I know I can get online w/ mario kart that I have downloaded. I'm not playing on my computer on an emulator or anything, I'm playing on an actual DS

You can trade if you are using a flashcard. You won't be getting too far using an R4 though.
