Word has it that Apple has a backup plan for the iPhone 4G just in case they run into production problems. Apparently it looks a lot more like the previous iPhone 3GS then the iPhone 4G that Gizmodo got its hands on. The model number on the backup is N91 which falls in line nicely considering you'll find N90 plastered on the back of the current iPhone 4G. The real question is with the leak of the iPhone 4G will Apple make a quick decision and release the back up model in its place? We're going to guess it wont but it would certainly make for an interesting move. According to DigiTimes here is the reason the N91 even exists in the first place:

On a side note, Apple initiated the iPhone 4G project at the end of 2008. According to our sources, Apple actually has another product codenamed N91 for the project, which offers less change from previous iPhones compared with the N90. It's a parallel product to back up the N90 in case there are major delays due to significant modifications in casing, display resolution, digital camera support and so forth.
Also for those of you wondering why we aren't seeing the extremely high contrast and absolutely beautiful AMOLED displays on the new iPhone, the answer is pretty simple. Apple originally sat down and spoke with Samsung about the possibility of AMOLED displays. Unfortunately with the amount of iPhones required for they type of launch they are looking at it just would not be possible. In fact even the Droid Incredible is having trouble keeping up with demand due to the AMOLED display as we speak. Here is DigiTimes look at the situation:

SMD only has the capability to fulfill 50-60% of iPhone orders at the moment even if it dedicated all AMOLED capacity to Apple. Of course, cost is always a concern. AMOLED panels cost US$34-38. TN panels cost less than US$10 and IPS panels around US$20.
We do wish we were going to see the AMOLED display on the next gen of iPhones, however we know Apple has some stiff competition in order to keep up with the displays of some of the current Android handsets. Chances are Apple will do everything it can to make sure their older tech screens give consumers the most bang for their buck. As the rumored revealing of the new iPhone quickly approaches, June 7th to be exact, we are continuously becoming more excited about what Apple has up their sleeve.

As for the Verizon branded iPhone, well don't get you hopes up for a launch this year. It appears the Verizon branded iPhone is definitely being produce, and Pegatron will be the manufacturer, but it is still in very early testing. Chances are we will not see the device begin to pop up until at least 2011. Luckily for Verizon users their smartphone line is shaping up nicely, unless you have something against Android...You don't have anything against Android do you?
