It’s so great to receive a box from home from someone you love and know that they are thinking of you. Here are a few ideas of what one might want to receive in a care package:
· Pictures and letters from home
· Nonmelting, nonperish-able food items (beef jerky, hard candies, individual serving sized drink mixes, microwave mac & cheese, etc. )
· Disposable cameras
· Paperback books or magazines
· Small games (cards, travel editions, hand-held electronic games, etc)
· Special creations from the kids in their lives (school artwork, essays, finger paintings, videos of school events or just an evening at home)
· Sudoku, logic problems, crossword puzzle books
· Items your Sailor has run out of and asked for
A few things to keep in mind when mailing:
· Mail sometimes takes a long time (6 weeks or more is not uncommon)
· Whatever you send, your Sailor will have to store (they don’t have a
lot of personal space)
· Things can get damaged in transit. Don’t send things that can easily break.
· Do not send banned items (hot plates, pressurized cans, liquor, etc).
· Themed boxes can be fun, also boxes for the special days in your Sailor’s life (send them early!).
Be creative and have fun creating a care package that your Sailor will love to open.
