    Magic evasion + chr

looking at how magian weapons with stats are designed, the stats compliments the trait, for example katana with agi +6 and eva +16.

chr is coupled with magic evasion for some reason so I was wondering if anyone done testing on chr for some sort of defence against magic damage, e.g reduces the maximium magic damage taken like what vit does for physical, or lowers the minimum damage that can be taken, or maybe it makes magical tp moves/spell less accurate. There must be some good reason why SE wanted pld to have chr pieces like on Koenig and why they use it to tank AV.

CHR does not lower magic damage taken.

There's not enough data out there to state conclusively if it affects Magic Evasion, but at the moment people believe that the same stat that affects spell damage also affects magic evasion.

It is possible that CHR is the base stat for Magic Evasion (like, 2 CHR = 1 MEva = 1 appropriate elemental resist = 1 "magic resist skill"). Magians are not really a proof for this.

I've only recently seen this stat myself, and I wonder what exactly does it mean? is it kinda like the debuff from Death Blossom or Stutter step for good comparison? and if so, with magic evasion gear on, does this help allow you to resist (iow* enemy misses) if you get hit by (example) para or slow, or helping reduce damage from a nuke, like a resist?

*in other words, evasion eluding to dodging, enemy misses you with spell, log simply shows resist

The Koenig set does have a lot of CHR on it. Maybe it's not so far fetched that CHR affects Magic Evasion somehow.

No, it's because chr gives extra enmity.

    no I'm not being serious.

Sometimes, armor has stats on for no real reason at all. AGI on warrior AF boots? CHR on rdm AF (iirc)? I honestly think CHR and m.eva got lumped together "just because" they were left over, and there's no real reason to it.

This possibility is why I'm hesitant to infer anything from the Magian weapons. For instance, MND is lumped with MDB. Mind doesn't give MDB, and stacking MND only reduces the damage of Banish/Holy/etc.

ele resist is basically magic evasion vs a specific element. eg 50 fire resist is 50 magic evasion vs fire spells.

INT doesn't give MAB either but they're still related stats.
And stacking MND does reduce the effect of Slow/Para if you get hit by them, I know it's not a very close bond between the two stats but it still makes sense.

Do you actually know this from testing? because i dont know a suitable way to go about testing such a thing myself, as mobs spells/tpmoves always seem to vary in damage each time unbuffed.

however i do agree with you that most likely its affect is on magic evasion. Chr could be the reason why sometimes magical tp moves/nukes sometimes hit for 100 rather than 1000 (without bar spells etc).

I thought it was a pretty common rule that 2 int more or less equals 1 MAB.

They are similar damage wise but independent. If int was MAB cor would obviously be using int gear.

Ah I get it. Using the term "equals" in this case would actually be different than using the term "gives".

MAB is not derived from INT, they are applied at different parts of the magic damage equation and it just so happens that for an average-geared lv.75 BLM, 2 INT adds about the same amount of damage as 1 MAB against a majority of targets while casting T4s.

There's a base magic evasion rate for all monsters and players that isn't necessarily related to CHR. It's similar to normal evasion, although it functions a good bit differently (rather than hit/miss, it alters the proportion of resistance distributions).

It's really simple. It's not that Agi and Evasion are necessarily aligned (although in this case they happen to be), it's just that they're both wind-elemental stats on a wind-elemental trial dagger. Each element except dark has a raw stat that goes with it, and up til now, each element except dark and light had a supplementary stat.

That is, fire had STR as a raw, core stat and attack as a supplementary.

When it came time to design magian trials, they needed to slap a core stat on dark and a supplementary stat on dark and light. For dark's core stat they went the Dark Ring route and put MP as its core stat, then they decided Magic acc and Magic eva would be a good pairing for supplementaries. Dark being more offensive an element, they gave acc to dark and eva to light. The fact that CHR is on light as well is happenstance.

tl;dr - They're not related, this is just them smashing old systems together with new ones.

Also, in before someone argue dark has always been MP because of the hMP on dark staff or something equally trivial--point is still mostly valid.

It's related to level. Equal to a C skill.

We can calculate exact magic damage without knowing monster or player CHR. Therefore CHR does not affect damage taken. Check the wiki "Calculating Magic damage" page and educate yourselves.

We are unsure how to calculate "magic evasion." It is suspected that there is some hidden "skill-like" trait that increases as you level. There may also be a stat component, but which stat it is we do not know. Could be any of them. This thread postulates it is CHR.

Always been MP for more reasons than that- look at shitty +MP earrings and rings. CHR is on HP as well, but the only reason why it gets two basic +stats is because of the uneven number of base stats. I guess on the magian they decided they would rather leave out HP than MP.

I'm well aware- but it's also related to a base stat too, depending on the type of nuke or enfeeble.

It's equal to a C skill, and is not suspected. It was originally displayed as such, and then later changed to display as 0 before gear/buffs.
