I didn't see this posted here so I thought I would. I was going to put it in the Tech section but I it seemed like a more general newsworthy thing.

There hasnt been a business in the last 500 years that hasnt copied something from someone else. Theres no such thing as being trully original now a days. Reviewing competitors strategies and trying to take them and improve on them is what people do. IE MS and Sony with Wii-mote.

Not really news worthy as it happens every other second.

I can't imagine Windows 8 information is loose enough that anybody could actually get it unless it was like an executive, which would make the leak obvious. I imagine it'd still be in the "need-to-know with cryptic code words for everything" stage, not the plain English Power Point that was "leaked".

Then again, my version sounds cooler than what corporate companies probably are in general.

Someone should tell this to SE. It might improve their customer service, game client, and gameplay, MMO-wise of course.

MS doesn't really have any major competitor other than Apple. All their marketing in the past year or two has been why you should buy a PC and not a mac basically. Seems like a logical step, and definitely one in the right direction.

Considering that XP has been dominating for the better part of 8 years, I'd say you have little to worry about.

Well, I think that is mostly attributed to Vista being a total failure so unless 8 fails as bad as Vista I don't see that repeating.

A lot of the comments on that page have it spot on. In the software industry, especially operating systems, it seems the 'better' os is the one who took x idea and made it the best. I'd say if we weren't copying stuff for the last 20 years and everyone was forced to make new ideas, instead of improving on already created ones (whether by themselves or otherwise) we'd be waaaay behind where we are currently. It's just the name of the game and I think it'll make windows much nicer.

I for one, welcome our microsoft overlords.

Edit: I should say, making new innovative things is definitely necessary, but there is definitely a need for a nice balance between the two.

Bolded is correct. An old friend got offered a job helping with security at microsoft, and caused some information to be released early for patent reasons and shit by Intel, because he broke through their incredible security system and got out with something that wasn't public...

His brother worked there, he was meeting him for dinner or some shit at the end of the day and noticed someone left a door cracked open and he stole a laptop lol... Turned out to be an unreleased processor for early programming testing.

Andy and Karl are competitors and each have been very successful. When trying to win over consumers that use one person's product over the other, should they:
a) spend millions (billions? ) on an experimental new idea that may or may not be that good of an idea
or
b) take the competitor's model and product and look to improve / build upon it
