PC Troubleshootin' Problems.

Bro's PC seems fucked and I'm not sure where to start.

He decided to just wake me up because his PC just locked up when Windows tries to load explorer, so I tell him to run it in safe mode and see if anything fishy is going on. He does, I come over, see nothing is wrong also, so I reboot it. Now the PC just sits there with a whine and doesn't even hit post.

I'm assuming something might have gotten fucked by the weather we had recently (we have no air conditioning, and the rear of his PC is close to the wall so a hardware component might have fried itself. ;/

Just not sure how to determine what exactly got killed, we don't exactly have much in the way of spare parts to play with.


[EDIT] Well, fucking around and reinserting parts/dusting them off seemed to have worked so far. I'm expecting the PC to die again within a day though. >.>

What exactly is needed to hit POST screen, just the mobo/cpu/ram?

Pull the power and all cables from the box. Then Pull the CMOS battery. Wait 2 or so minutes, put CMOS battery back in, plug in all cables, and power it back up.

PC probably just overheated and needed to cool off.
