What kind of performance can I expect from FFXIV?

Hey all, I got my current desktop several years ago as a graduation gift. At the time it was fairly cutting edge, but I'm wondering how it will hold up now against some current generation games (specifically FFXIV). I'm planning on buying a new one sometime in the next year or two, this time one that I'll build myself (my parents wanted me to have a "reliable" computer, something with a warranty, so they got me a lolDell). Specs:

    PSU: 1KW (Don't know the brand, I'd imagine it's some Dell no-name)
    GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX
CPU: Intel Q6600 2.4GHz Quad Core
    RAM: 4GB DDR2
    HD: 256GB Crucial RealSSD C300 2.5-inch SATA 6GB/s

I think those are the most relevant specs. Will XIV run decently well at medium settings with this, or will I have to upgrade?

    Thanks.

    Ragnarok

    ~20fps on lowest settings.

    not joking at all.

I have a i7 920 OC'd to 3.8ghz and a GTX 285 and I can get 40-50 on the lowest settings only. Anything above that is 20-30 fps.

Jesus. The minimum specs on the FFXIV website are really misleading then. =(

EDIT: Could it be that the beta is not optimized, and that the actual game will run smoother?

You're halfway there. The beta is not optimized and the final won't run more smoothly.

Square is rushing out a build of the game for retail.

Figures. Another question: will my build play nice with CS5? I'm planning on getting one of the student editions in the near future.

I'm sure it'd be fine for that.

Just going to borrow this thread so as to not make a new one and bring the internet closer to total chaotic implosion. Because who wants that?

So I had an HP a1600n that shitted on me earlier this year. Had a warranty(ty Circuit City, RIP), took them forever to help me, but they decided to replace with a refurbished this.

Personally, I'm excited, because for free, I will get a faster processor, more RAM, more upgrade slots, and Windows 7, the greatest OS of all time(OF ALL TIME /shrug). I, however, have no idea how that processor ranks on XIV or anything modern playability scale. So my question to you, kind sirs and madams, is what should I plan to upgrade, or should I actually sell this and put the money towards a slightly more future proof(such a joke of a term) personal computer?

Thank you and God bless, unless you're from the midwest.

Edit: I upgraded the video card on the other computer, but I'll probably buy a newer one. The integrated video card is not getting the job done, I am aware. Also, I have a better Power Supply that I could transfer.

I have a similar setup, I had a Dell that I upgraded over a few years and just recently put together a new motherboard and case for my upgraded parts.

I still have the Q6600, 4gb Ram, the main difference is I have a Radeon 5850.

I got a 3489 on the benchmark, and the beta runs pretty smooth. If you upgrade your graphics card you will be fine, especially at launch when things are optimized. I play beta 1080p, and it runs fine.

Upgrade your graphics card, you will be fine.

Overclock your Q6600 to ~ 3Ghz and pick up a GTX460 1GB and OC it. You should have no problem playing on highish settings as long as you stay away from AA and Ambient Occlusion.

Preciated. Should 8800GT SLI'd get me good performance, or should I plan to shop for one better card?

Edit: Q6600 was throwing me off; I'm using an Athlon. Meyor is the one with the Q6600. But I will try to OC both the processor and whatever video card(s) I roll with.

Que, I think the consensus for minimum graphics card is radeon 5770 or gtx 460. You can go a bit lower and sli/crossfire for maybe better performance but the 8800 series won't get you where you need to be, probably no matter how many you have.

Dell are dicks and won't let me do that...the BIOS locks you out of those settings.
