If you found money, what would you do?

Hello BG, I found something the morning which made me think.

I was catching my usual bus to work, I sat down when I felt something. I stood up and there was a coinpurse on my seat. I looked inside and I found a small amount of money (About $30) and I spent the whole bus journey wondering what to do with it. I thought about keeping it since I'm short on money until I get paid friday, I thought about taking a little bit of it and giving it to the driver but in the end I just gave it to the driver when I got off the bus. It looked like a elderly woman's purse so it would probably be a lot of money to her.

So I ask you this BG, What would you of done if you were in my position? Kept the money? Kept some of it? Or just gave it straight back? What of it would of been a larger amount?

Since it was on the bus I would have also given it back. A lot of people ride the same bus everyday and I would figure the person would try to get their stuff back. But if I found like a $5 bill on the ground I would just take it.

If you gotta steal 30 bucks in change out of a little ol coin purse there's something very wrong in the decisions you made in life, give it to the nearest guy wearing a uniform. Most metro transit authorities have transit cops and they have phone numbers that can be called in case of lost valuables.

Purse/Wallet/Whatever with cash+ID? Return to address.
Purse/Wallet/Whatever with cash and no ID? Look around for somebody that could be searching for it, if nobody is around, put up flyers or a notice of some sort. Keep it and don't touch anything inside. If they contact you, great, if not, sit on it for awhile then take the cash.

Edit: All my situations aren't thought of as on the bus. If I were on some sort of public transit, give it to the driver/conducter

When there's no way of finding out to whom it belongs to, keep. It may "help" you, but it could have been all the money they had for food that week

No because statistically speaking the bus driver would just keep the money and not turn it in.

But, if it was me, and it was only $30, I would turn it in. However if it was a wad of money from something obviously shady/illegal, I'd keep it.
