    think i have plantar fasciitis

Haven't been to a doctor, but my dad says he had it, and my symptoms are a lot like his were.

other than what i have read on webmd, are there anyone here on bg who have had this and can give me some pointers on how to rid of this quickly?

I'm not usually the kind of person to complain about pain, but this is down right unbearable, and with UPROAR festival coming this weekend, I really wish it would be better by then

Arch inserts for the shoes. You can also do stretches and exercises for the foot and ankle. One other thing you can do is roll a golf ball around on the floor using your foot. It gives it a good massage. Try gripping the ball with your foot and it will help strengthen the foot too.

Oh, and take Aleve every day for a while.

I can second the golf ball thing except I use a tennis ball. If you have smaller feet a golf ball may be better.

+2 to the golf ball. Arch inserts may to more harm than good...your arch/pronation would need to be evaluated.

A+ advice so far, definitely go the ball route. At USC our strength and conditioning coach would make us do the same thing when we had this going on. I was a part of the track team, so you can imagine how often foot problems would arise with myself and my teammates.

Aleve and balls are definitely your friend.

Do those dr schools machines in the store do any good? maybe go to that and see what it says and you could get some kind of support. Idk how accurate or actually helpful they are though.

Plantar Fasciitis is best prevented by stretching your calf muscles and achilles.

That being said, if you're already suffering from it, Rest - Ice -Compression - Elevation is the quickest way to get rid of the pain. Once the pain is gone, work on stretching out your calves more often. Muscular work with your foot (like with marbles or golf balls etc) works well also, but the stem of the problem is in your calf muscles.

Don't push it much with this sort of chronic injury, I've actually torn my plantar fascia, and trust me you don't want to be laid up for 4-6 weeks.

I had this when I was a cross country runner. It sucked. Instead of using a tennis ball, I used a rolling pin. My mom didn't appreciate her rolling pin getting all foot-ified, but I didn't appreciate the crunching noises my feet were making. Honestly, all the stretching/exercises didn't seem to help. The rolling pin felt cool at least.

I stopped running hills courses in cross country for a while and it went away on its own.

Your problem, like many I read in these threads, and see in the ER is simple:

    STOP FUCKING READING WEBMD.

The internets doesn't have a MD. That is all. Thank you.

"I'm not usually the kind of person to complain about pain, but this is down right unbearable, and with UPROAR festival coming this weekend, I really wish it would be better by then"

Bullshit. You are complaining right now, about something that really doesn't break a 3 on the 'real' pain scale. Want it to be better by the weekend? TOUGH SHIT, it won't be.

Sorry, long day, just venting onto you what I wish I could say to some of my patients.

If your foot/leg hurts from using it too much, rest it, take some ibuprofen in its many forms. Perhaps some ice, not just for the foot, but for the scotch. I guarantee lying down with a scotch on ice will help you out.

It sure as hell helps me with the pain...
EDIT: there was already valid advice in this thread that the poster is following... so I get to be a dick instead of posting something that will truly help. (at least according to my own morals)

well, i said I'm NOT USUALLY ONE TO COMPLAIN doesn't mean i don't ever, and its kinda fucking hard to not complain about a '3 on a real pain scale' when every time i take a step it feels like I'm getting stabbed in the bottom of my fucking foot.

I got ya. I just had a bad day with 'cough' and 'foot pain' patients.

I'm sure it hurts like hell. I just had a day full of people crying about that while we had people actually dying a few rooms over. I took it out on this thread.

I had this and it developed into a heel spur. Horrible, horrible pain for 5-6 months, and then it went away. No idea what I did to cure it beyond insoles recommended by my doctor. It twinges from time to time over a year later but it's not that bad. I don't think this is something you'll have cured by a concert.

How did you get it? Do you run a lot? Did you just wear new shoes? I second all the people saying stretch your calves. It's like people that are in decent shape that have lower back problems, it's hamstring-related a lot of the time.

[Edit: you can always tape it. I have a few friends that swear by KT (kinesio-tape I think is the brand name). Bear in mind though that taping it will just help support it and alleviate some of the discomfort, it's not going to cure it.]

i do run from time to time, but really don't that often.
and strange enough i was working on a friends car stereo and sorta tripped over a rock, at first i thought i just sprained my ankle, as it didn't hurt that much, but the next morning when i woke up i couldn't put weight on it at all.

that's when my dad said i probably have this, as he said he had the same symptoms a couple months ago.
