    http://insidemovies.ew.com/2011/01/2...e-kevin-smith/

The real thing to see is, has he gone batshit and put the tombstone on his career by giving the finger to the studios, or will he be able to pull of the "Conan Comedy Tour" shtick too?
(And remember, he's already actually DONE it before, with those Q&A DVDs)

Ballsy. I'm really interested in seeing the film, it looks brutal.

kevin smith talked about this in one of his smodcasts before he started the red state of the union Q&A

he was talking about how he had twice the talent
    Spoiler: show
    him high, him sober
when it came to him editing the movie. he would edit it high, then rewatch it sober to see if it was any better, then watch it high.

he showed the FINISHED movie to the ENTIRE cast at his house the day they wrapped filming.

My recent trip across country I listened to Smodcast half the way. I'm going to pay to see this movie because if nothing else this man kept me entertained for 20 hours one way, and at least once an episode they talk about it.

Sad he didn't manage to get even limited theater distribution, and if he did a road tour, I didn't really hear about it.
Hope this works for him, and maybe his hockey film manages to hit big.

He was on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast last night and he talked pretty extensively about it, said he didn't even really direct Michael Parks because of how good he was at getting into the character.

Downloaded it last night, can't wait to watch it. I plan on buying it when I can.

Pretty good film, it certainly builds suspense well at some points. Michael Parks is great as the Pastor as well. It certainly isn't the best horror movie ever, but neither is it garbage like Piranha or the most recent Nightmare on Elm Street.

Some of the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes seem to want to bury Smith just because of the whole Sundance thing and the reviewers wanting to stay on the movie studios good side. I really don't see how this has a lower aggregate score than Scream 4, Insidious, etc.

I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. It's a departure from Smith's regular stuff. It's not your typical horror movie, but it is quite horrific. Michael Parks is so believable as the pastor and I hope he gets rewarded for this movie. This movie does take religion to its more extreme level and the scary thing is it does exist.

Loved the movie, the end was a little crazy though

    Spoiler: show
Specifically I'm amazed he killed off all 3 of the kids who got kidnapped. Especially the one in the fountain, it seemed to be his story, then it became the daughters story, then it became John Goodman's story...

Also, loved Goodman explaining the trumpets, shit had me rolling

Glad people are enjoying this. I was excited about it then read some reviews that were ripping it apart like nuthin... but I'll give it another go after reading this.

The guy who played the pastor was amazing. This is supposed to be a horror film though? It was more of a straight drama.

Also, forgot to mention on the JREPodcast, Smith said he made plans to watch it with Quentin Tarentino at his private theater, when he showed up QT confessed he had already watched the movie twice and was excitedly waiting to watch it a third time with Smith and Parks.

I usually don't care to listen to RT, they have a lot of bad reviews up as far as I'm concerned. I think QT saying he loved it even watching it 3 times in a row in a couple of days is enough incentive for me to want to watch it.

I watched it last night and enjoyed it quit a bit, but thought it ended too abruptly.

    Spoiler: show
Also thought they switched perspectives so many times that some of the character's stories seemed unfinished. For example, after Goodman was introduced none of the plot about the kids that were kidnapped or the gay sheriff was really resolved beyond their deaths. The trumpet explanation though, was funny for sure.
