I want to quit my job...

...but I obviously need the money.

It's a shitty, but relatively well paying (for retail) retail management job. Recently all no management employees had their hours slashed. This only resulted in more work being put on me. My boss has also gone from being reasonable to being a dick due to the stress on him too now.

I've gotten four phone calls in the past three hours, two of which were stupid questions from employees, and two were my boss who just felt the need to yell at me for something that happened while I wasn't there.

    Really, sick of it.

I want to go back to school, but don't want to stick with this job another four years. I know there are "six week programs" and stuff like that - but are any of them worth it?

Good job fields to look into?

I like with a lot of people, but not deal with a lot of customers. I also hate taking orders (which does NOT equate to not wanting to do my job...)

Suggestions, go... because I really want to GTFO of this shit now.

I got sick of retail being salary myself, when my weekly hours jumped from 60/w to over 80/w for the reasons you stated. Lucky for me i had enough money saved up to pay all my bills for a few years and start school again. Fuck retail in the ass man, do whatever you have to do to get out.

Fuck yes I do, and i'm sure a ton of people do. Stop your bitching and be glad you have a management position. I'm stuck working in a shit deli for 8.75/hr while my 2 bosses make me do the jobs of the chef, deli worker AND dishwasher because they refuse to find new employees. Not to mention they threatened to fire me after calling in because my car wouldnt start 1 day.

With management experience you can do a lot right now, as a lot of people are looking for management but refuse to have anyone with less then 10yrs experience...FUCKING A FUCKING ENTRY LEVEL POSITION.

Job market sucks ass, quit your job if you want and go back to school, but you'll regret it once you have a ton of debt and still no perspective job outlook since Bachelor degrees are the new highschool diploma now.

Edit: Btw im bitter as fuck if you can't tell lol. I've applied to a few entry level management positions around here and they want those 10yrs experience for something as simple as assistant manager of FYE/Gamestop/or whatever. Job picking are slim as hell.

I worked at a vet hospital for 4 years spending 50% of the time cleaning fecal matter out of cages, 30% of the time getting scratched and bitten, 15% getting talked down to by ignorant clients, and the last measly 5% getting to work nicely with animals and their owners. I left that job to move upstate with my boyfriend a month ago and have spent every day searching for any job I can. What I would give to be cleaning up fecal matter again...

I was just promoted to a supervisor... so much nicer being in the management team than as the general staff. Just stick it out, unless you have another job waiting for you.

This is where someone pulls out the pie chart/graph telling you to stop being a pussy, it could be worse.

I don't have one of those, but this was in today's headlines:
Record Number of Americans Below Poverty Line, Uninsured

New figures show the number of Americans living in poverty and lacking health insurance has reached the highest levels on record. According to the Census Bureau, 43.6 million people—about one in seven—lived below the poverty level of $22,000 for a family of four in 2009. It was the largest number since the census began keeping track fifty-one years ago, and an increase of four million people from 2008. The numbers pushed the national poverty rate to a fifteen-year high of 14.3 percent. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the number of people in poverty would have been higher by 3.3 million were it not for unemployment benefits. The number of Americans with incomes less than half the poverty line also hit a record high of nearly 20 million, or 6.3 percent of the population. More than one in five children lived in poverty—one in three for African American children. The number of uninsured Americans meanwhile grew for the first time on record, from 46.3 million people in 2008 to 50.7 million people last year. The proportion of Americans with employment health coverage reached its lowest rate in twenty years, at nearly 56 percent.

It doesn't surprise me you're in retail Lol. I assumed it before even reading the post.

The amount of bullshit that goes on in retail is so unreal that its no wonder most of the people who work in retail are college kids desperate for the money or old folks who could use the extra cash. I used to work for office depot a few years back and the acting store manager was so fucking retarded and clueless that she thought work was sitting in the office all fucking day talking on the phone with her friends. I went in one day to print a bunch of price labels she was on the phone talking about her fabulous night out in the french quarter. I came back into the office 4 hours later to print more labels and she was still on the phone talking about some club they went to, fucking fat lazy bitch.

She also almost got me fired for pulling me off jobs the district manager told me to do since she was so lazy I had to do her work as well. The store was between store managers at the time so he was stopping in each day to check up on the store till a more permanent manager was in place. Eventually I let that bitch have it infront of store employee's and customers calling her a fat fucking lazy bitch who needs to go drown in a toliet full of shit. I called her a fucking space cadet, said a turd serves more of a purpose than her and she started crying as I walked out of the store with laughter of the customers to my back.

Ever since then fuck a bunch of retail, I think i've only had 1 good boss in like 3 different retail jobs.

lol just because he has 20 years experience of fixing cranes, tractors, cars, chainsaws, doing drywall, roofs, etc and when he gets laid off comes home the next day w/ a new job from the competitor, doesn't mean it's easy for me to get one w/ no experience in anything, lol.

shit... similar story with my dad, but he had 20yrs exp basically doing 1 skill(window framing, frame assembly, etc.). Hasn't been in full-time work since mass layoff in '06.

On a more related note, I have 5yrs retail/customer service exp., finished pharm tech school in July, and still no callbacks. Growing medical field my ass.
