PS3 error 80010514

The last few days I've had problems with all of my games freezing up at random intervals, causing me to hard reset the system. It would then take another restart to get the game running again. Thought nothing of it..until tonight.

Loaded up MW2, got the 80010514 error. CD/DVD's work, won't read any of my games. Am I basically fucked?

*PS3 is about 3 1/2 years old so no warranty

Your hard drive is corrupt.

Send it in to Sony if you want to pay $120, or, you can do it yourself by buying a new hard drive & installing it in your PS3. It does not void your warranty.

I think there are other things you can try before replacing the hard drive itself. Try googling, I know at a bare minimum u can try reformatting the HD in the ps3, but I believe there is a way to restore the hard drives database or something like that.

Reformatted, got my games to work again, but had another freezup..but the games still work. Guess I'm gonna have to put up with this shit for a while

I'd you already tried to do some system restore and didn't work, the next thing to do is to get your hands on another hd. I, however, think the blu ray laser is done for.

I've played Oblivion for about a hour straight + 40 ish minutes while AFK and the game was fine. I can barely last 15 minutes on MW2 without the game freezing up. The CD is in perfect condition (bought it new a month or so ago) while Oblivion is a used copy.

My friend can't play Unreal Tournament, or some Sonic the hedgehog game (the two games that came with the ps3 his uncle gave him because it was acting up). Tested 3D Dot Heros, Dead Space, and Darksiders, and all worked with no issues. Seems some games just don't work well with some consoles. Don't know the causes, just know originally the consoles hard drive had failed, and the console freezes before getting to the UT Menu, and after choosing a level on Sonic, stays at Loading forever.

That's why you need to troubleshoot the hd. The reason why I mentioned the blu ray dying is because you described the classic symptoms. I used to play WH for weeks when nothing else worked. It was a gradual process. In my case was SFIV first, then blu rays, then other PS3 games, etc.
