So I have a group interview Wednesday and basically have no idea what to expect. Anyone got any experience and tips and such???
Also it's for a freaking intro sales position at a whole foods type place, so it's not like a high end business thing.

They're trying to cut down on the amount of time that they spend interviewing people and they want to see how you handle social situations (makes sense if you're working at a supermarket). Don't stab anyone, smile, and act normal. Be a bit cheery without being annoying if you want the job.
I'd rather have one group interview than the 3 interviews I just finished up for Apple Retail. You just meet different people who ask you the same questions over and over.
I guess on the plus side, is I've gotten pretty good at Angry Birds on the iPad waiting for my interviewers to be ready......
PS. I got referred to I skipped some steps, I think if you just walk in and apply it's more like 5 interviews.
my wife had a group interview with 30+ ppl for a chiropractic job and she said that the interviewer didnt even ask every single person a question.
said they had them stand up and introduce themselves and asked a couple of questions to the group and whoever chimed in got to speak. so of course if it goes down like that then i'd encourage you to speak up, at least it would show initiative.
i think they're dumb honestly tho. doesnt really allow you to find out much about the employee
They usually put you into groups and give you tasks to do, and monitor how you work in teams etc. Pretty much you want to just act how you normally do, be relaxed and contribute well without being too over the top.
They sometimes have a morning session, then an afternoon session.. if they like you they'll keep you on for the afternoon group. If you aren't right for the job they will usually let you go after the morning group. They wont always do this, but the 2 that I've been to have done this.
Hmm mine starts in the afternoon. I wonder if it's possible that I got bumped up since my resume for this position is a lotttttt better than most peoples.
From my experience, they made the group perform a certain task, or ask a group question and monitor the response. To be honest, its usually a joke as 90% of people going into job interviews come drastically unprepared or doing something really boneheaded in the interview.
Keep your cool, show confidence in your ability to do the job, be enthusiastic, and don't say anything stupid.
chances are they will pick you according to their personal tastes, qualifications really go out the window on these interviews.
They'll probably ask you to suck each other's dicks. Don't do it, it's a trap.
or is it
My group interview included a male stripper, competing for an Abercombie sales position. That's not even cool, man.
I have an interview at Whole Foods soon. It hasn't been scheduled yet. Let me know how that ends up going for you, would greatly appreciate it.
Remember that your setting is everything. When I was 18 I did a group interview for my first ever job at Cold Stone - despite the fact that I sat around and played PSO / Morrowind all the time back then and was a lazy fuck I was really energetic in my interview and I got hired. Proved myself and went up the ranks fast before quitting for school.
At Whole Foods, look like your a person who really cares about the environment and natural foods. Get a messenger bag and put buttons on it that say "no pesticides" and "farm fresh is best". Then talk about how much the environment and "doing the right thing" means to you. Slam dunk.
Even if it's just bullshit
we do group interviews at my place of work. my boss will do a initial talk to everyone interviewing and then bring them into me and a few other guys. we take em and BS them around and show them whats what and all that. i doubt what your talking about is even remotely close to what we do but we usually make a decision based of how the person fits into our group.
^More and more often I find myself wishing I could "Like" bg posts
That was the coolest interview I've ever been too. First they told us they were sorry but lost our applications and gave us construction paper, crayons, markers, and scissors to make a new one. I decided to write a big Roll Tide under my education section. I hope they don't get too mad considering I'm in Austin...
Then we had to play the top chef "name that food" game, which was awesome. We even had to freaking roll play. It was strange, but somehow I left that interview thinking "I WANT TO WORK HERE." NEVER have I had a job do that to me.
