Automatic Updates and the Infinite Boot

Any time I get an automatic update for windows, my computer starts on an infinite boot cycle. It will reboot after the update is finished, but when it gets to the Windows XP splash screen, it will blue screen for a split second, then just reboot again. That keeps going on until I start in safe mode and do a system restore to the most recent restore point. After the restore, everything is back to normal and the machine boots fine.

Anyone heard of this issue at all? If so, any info on how to fix it so that I don't have to system restore for a normal boot? I saw the other thread down the page, but it seems to be for Vista.

    Running Windows XP SP3

I've turned off automatic updates for the time being

If the update isn't really critical, just don't update it.

You can disable automatic restart on system error as well so if it does happen again, you'll at least have an error code.

Install the updates 1 at a time till you find the one that is causing the problem. Do a restore, then go into updates and hide that single update. That should let you keep using update normally.
