I read a few other posts about wireless routers and which to buy but there was not much discussion. I am going to purchase some new equipment for my home network and I was wondering which would be the best route to take. All our gaming consoles and desktops have cat 6 ran to them so no need for top of line wifi. Laptops are only used for general internet use.
So my questions is since all my important equipment is ran through ethernet cords should I purchase a gaming switch and place my cheap wireless router behind it? Would this work or would I need to setup the wireless router as an access point? Or should I spend more and purchase a wireless gaming router. I was looking at the E2000 because Walmart has it in stock (and its kinda cheap). Small town so I would need to order anything else. Anyways I hope to get some comments and advise back.
Edit: The reason I ask this is because I have been having trouble with black ops behind my router. When going straight from the modem I get great game play.
Speed test are giving me
23-26 mps from just modem
12-15 ethernet cord to router
Is that drop off normal? Only one machine was on the router when I tested.
