A survey of FFXI player experiences!

    Hello,

I'm a MA student at the university of Turku, Finland (my major is Digital Culture) and doing a study project about the meaning of MMORPGs to their players, focusing on FFXI. In my research I'm interested in finding out about limits between reality and games and if or how MMORPG players are able to break them. I'm trying to find out how players are building their identity online and, on the other hand, how the game becomes a part of their "real life" identity.

If you're a current or former FFXI player, please answer the survey here: https://spreadsheets.google.com/view...ZG9oV20tMlE6MQ

    All answers are greatly appreciated!

FFXI has humbled me in real life.

I went out the other day to XP, and realized I'm really a shitty monk.

I tried to XP on birds, but I couldn't even pull one. Provoke didn't even work, as I spent an hour screaming insults at them as they flew by in the sky. I moved to a better camp - downtown Boston - and found a bunch of pigeons... managed to land a couple of kicks with footwork up, but then their evasion went through the roof. I think they were NMs.

Giving up on birds, I moved to the beach and tried to XP on crabs. H2H sucked on them, so I switched to Footwork ... found a few, and kicked them back into the ocean. Nothing dropped and the XP sucked.

It's really hard to find good XP mobs in real life. I think I'm going to quit monk, level ranger and go play Ballista.
