All right, folks. I've got an issue, and for the life of me, I can't figure it out on my own. It's also followed me across three different PCs with vastly varied components, including ATI and NVIDIA cards both. All of them are coming from fresh installations of FFXI itself, and Windower.
Occasionally, FFXI freezes on me, but it isn't the normal lock up with an error message. One of the frames sent to the screen stays constant, even if I try to force a crash to PlayOnline via Ctrl + Alt + Del. The music also continues to play. FFXI is completely unresponsive, hovering the cursor over the still frame causes it to vanish beneath the motionless overlay, and the only way to close the program is to manually shut down POL.exe via Task Manager.
I'm assuming this has something to do with one of the plugins, but because this only happens rarely, I don't know which one it could be, and am having difficulty in troubleshooting it. The only noteworthy thing that happened occurred last night: I was fighting an Ironclad as BLM, and used "//burn". Nothing happened. I thought SpellCast crashed, so I checked the console, and there was nothing reported. I tried again. No response. Since I was low-manning the Severer with two friends, I was naturally getting frustrated, and started doing things the old-fashioned way, typing out the full spells or using menus.
All of a sudden, my character casts Burn, and then the aforementioned still frame crash hits.
SpellCast is updated, so I don't believe it's a resource issue. Any ideas?
