Verizon Confirms iPhone 4, $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB, Mobile Hotspot Included, Pre-Orders February 3rd

At today’s Verizon iPhone conference, the Verizon CEO has confirmed that iPhone 4 will be headed to the Verizon network. The new iPhone 4 will support the CDMA technology that Verizon has.

The iPhone 4 will be launched on Verizon next month, whereas the iPad had made its debut on their network late last year. This is definitely good news for users who have been waiting for Verizon to launch the iPhone.

"We’re incredibly pleased to give Verizon’s customers the choice we’ve been waiting for. We’ve designed an iPhone 4 which connects to the CDMA network — and it has all the features that you’d expect. Like FaceTime. Features like Apple’s stunning Retina Display."

The new iPhone 4 has been designed specifically for the CDMA network and was in test for more than a year. This should open up iPhone access for CDMA vendors across the world, so you will see more networks being added by Apple in near future.

Verizon iPhone users will most likely benefit from the Verizon LTE network and see higher speeds. There goes millions of AT&T customers.

The price of 16GB iPhone 4 on Verizon will be $199 and 32 GB iPhone 4 will be $299. Verizon will also support mobile hotspots out of the box where you can connect up to 5 devices and access the internet.

The Verizon iPhone 4 will be up for pre-order on February 3, 2010. Sales of iPhone 4 will start on February 10, 2010 at online stores for Verizon and in Verizon or Apple stores.

Apple restricting employee vacations as first 2011 products loom
Apple is quietly prohibiting vacation days for some retail employees for three weeks beginning later this month, a move that could foreshadow a significant product introduction in the coming weeks, AppleInsider has learned.

People familiar with the company's retail plans say Apple has issued a "blackout" period spanning three weeks, during which retail employees without seniority will not be allowed vacation time. That blackout period is said to begin the last week of January and continue into the first half of February.

Prohibiting vacations during such a large span of time is typically indicative of a major product launch, such as a new iPhone, according to people familiar with past retail blackouts. At the same time, however, they admitted to having no specific knowledge of what Apple could be planning this time around.

Meanwhile, Apple is also said to have retained its overstaffed holiday personnel at many retail stores, even with the annual shopping season now concluded. While a gradual drawdown of temporary employees remains inevitable at some point, it appears the company is keeping staff on-hand at some stores, perhaps in preparation for a new product launch.

One person familiar with the company's retail operations said last month that managers initially became "reluctant" to offer employees days off for the entire month of January. It was only more recently the company went a step further and began preventing employee vacations during the apparent three-week span in late January and early February.

Verizon Finally Lands the iPhone
The iPhone is finally coming to Verizon Wireless.
The largest U.S. wireless carrier will make the long-awaited announcement at an event Tuesday in New York City, a person familiar with the matter said Friday.
The move will for the first time let U.S. consumers choose the network that carries their iPhone and perhaps give them additional pricing options that could affect their monthly bills.

It will also upend the balance of power in the industry, ending Verizon rival AT&T Inc.'s exclusive hold on the device and leaving smaller players like Sprint Nextel Corp. and T-Mobile USA facing two well-capitalized competitors offering the world's most popular smartphone.
It wasn't immediately clear when Verizon would have the device in stores.
The Verizon phone will be similar to the iPhone 4 but run on the carrier's CDMA technology, people familiar with the matter have said.
Verizon Wireless is a joint venture between Verizon Communications Inc. and Vodafone Group Plc.
Apple is moving to expand its carrier base in the U.S. at a time when it is facing increasing pressure from phones powered by rival Google Inc.'s operating system, called Android.
Google gives its software away, hoping to stake out space on mobile phones where it can sell ads and other services.

Android-based phones passed the iPhone in sales in the second quarter, according to research firm Gartner. The surge appeared to get to Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs, who made a rare appearance on a conference call with analysts in October and criticized Android as fragmented, referring to the myriad ways the software appears on the many different phones that use it.
AT&T has had the iconic device to itself since its introduction in June 2007.
Since then, the iPhone has fueled much of the carrier's subscriber growth and has given it a solid lead in smartphone customers.
The arrangement between Apple and AT&T was groundbreaking at a time when carriers tightly controlled the appearance and function of their phones, and put Silicon Valley companies like Apple and Google in the wireless industry's driver's seat.
Apple feels it has had tremendous success through its exclusive relationship with AT&T, but it recognized that it needs to partner with Verizon to grow sales faster in the U.S., a person familiar with the matter said.
"It's a big boost for Apple," said Tim Ghriskey, chief investment officer of New York-based Solaris Asset Managmenet which counts Apple in its portfolio worth $2 billion. "It opens up a huge uninstalled base for them in this country."
Verizon Wireless fought its way back into the smartphone race last year by heavily promoting Google-powered phones made by companies like Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. and HTC Corp.
Top Verizon executives have continued to meet regularly with their counterparts at Apple, however, and have long expressed interest in carrying the iPhone, which could help add to the carrier's base of 93 million subscribers. Toni Sacconaghi, an analyst at Sanford Bernstein, has estimated that Verizon could add more than 10 million U.S. iPhone customers.
"It's great news," said Michael Benkoski, 55 years old, who works at a technology leasing company in Chicago. "I've been waiting for it for about two years."
IPhone users have long complained about dropped calls and poor service on AT&T's network, even as the carrier boosted spending to improve coverage. A Consumer Reports survey last month ranked Verizon's network as most reliable among the major carriers and AT&T's as the worst.
Analysts fear AT&T could see one to three million fewer new subscribers because of the Verizon iPhone. AT&T has been preparing for a loss of exclusivity, however.
This summer, it made it easier for customers to upgrade to the new iPhone 4, in the process locking them into new two-year service contracts. The carrier says many are also on family or business plans, making it tricky to switch.
Colby Synesael, an analyst with investment bank Cowen and Co., said that "the loss of the iPhone is more of a headline risk than a financial impact."
Smaller carriers like No. 3 Sprint and No. 4 T-Mobile could be harder hit, however.
"This is the worst case scenario for the other carriers," said Roger Entner of Recon Analytics. "When Verizon comes out with the iPhone, there's only one carrier in the U.S. that will gain customers, and that's Verizon."
While Verizon's network is popularly perceived to be better than AT&T's, it has yet to be tested by the heavy volume of data use that accompanies the iPhone. The carrier has been strengthening and testing its network for months to avoid the public relations nightmare AT&T has suffered from, one person familiar has said. Verizon executives also point to their success handling laptop traffic and the data demands of a growing base of Android phones.
Analysts will be eager to know when other U.S. carriers might also get to carry the iPhone. They aree also waiting to see whether Apple will offer the CDMA iPhone to other CDMA operators around the world in countries such as in India and China.
Verizon sent out invitations for an event to be held in New York City on Tuesday asking that recipients "Join us as we share the latest news," but didn't specify the subject matter. The event will be headlined by Lowell McAdam, president and chief operating officer of Verizon Communications.
The event threatens to overshadow Verizon's keynote address Thursday at the Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas, where the carrier touted its new 4G network and announced a number of Google-powered phones and tablet PCs designed to make use of the network's capabilities.

The Verizon iPhone... Duke Nukem Forever.... both, seemingly are mythical creatures that create heated discussions about their likelihood of seeing reality or being relegated to the same category as Bigfoot. Often discussed, never seen.

However recently it appears that both may be coming out. I've got my pre-order in at Amazon.com right now for Duke Nukem Forever. We've also seen mentioned recently that Apple has instructed all employees of a blackout on vacations for a 3 week period. Now comes news that Verizon has been sending out press invites to some key figures who have nothing to do with Verizon reporting/cell phone reporting -- and more to do with Apple reporting. People like Jim Dalrymple of The Loop.

The press release is pretty basic but it invites those individuals to join Lowell McAdam the Verizon President and COO to Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City on January 11th, 2011 at 11:00am. The rumored "release" date of the Verizon iPhone is expected to be on Thursday the 13th. It would finally seem that all the stars are aligned for Verizon and Apple to release an iPhone together.

How are your feelings on this? Personally I want every customer to have every possible choice and ultimately decide what's best for them. I'm very happy with my Android phone but I have no problem with someone deciding to use an iPhone if that's what works better for them. Let's try to keep the bashing to a minimum and respect everyone's choices. Ultimately it's about whatever works best for you!

Shockingly most of the android users are taking it well. It still could be fake, but everything just seems to line up way to nicely.

If it's not a watered down iPhone, and is actually everything an iPhone is... then It's almost worth the outrageous cancellation fee for me to switch back to verizon. Guess we'll see.

The only issue to me is upgrade rate. Isn't there some change to the iphone model almost yearly? iphone > 3g > 3gs > 4, I purchased a 3G and got to upgrade to 4, so it seems best to upgrade every-other-phone. Which would mean to wait this time around.

edit: meh, it sounds like you can't do voice and data at the same time on the Verizon iphone. You can only do that on 3g (AT&T), but not being able to do that is a huge downside for me at least... That, and the iphone 4 doesn't support 4g... but I bet the iphone 5 will.

Katlan, CDMA is 3g, its the most used one around the world I think as well. With the Iphone using it will see it poping up on more hten just verizon soon.

CDMA limits use to data when the phone is in use. I think its limited to 1g background data(did verizon ever have a 2g?) so internet cant be used and such when the phone is in use.

This is also one of the reasons people think that Verizon can deal with the data hogs of the Iphone much better then At&T.
