What's the Term for When Images "Freeze"?

All right so I only just switched to Windows 7 and I really hate so much about it. I'm only attempting to stick to it because I want to use things like directx 10. It has so much more issues than I've ever had to resolve than XP.

So anyways, is there a term for when images of things like "freeze" in their spot on your screen. Then when you move something new over them it sort of "wipes" or "erases" the frozen image. If I knew there was a name for this phenomenon I could look it up and find out why it happens and how to resolve it. But I don't know how to begin so I asked here.

Usually this problem has only happened to me in the past rarely. Like when the system is really overloaded with something. But now on Windows 7 it happens constantly, particularly when I right click something using Firefox. The fucking right click menu "freezes" and the image is stuck there til I drag something over it.

Any idea if there's a term for this? Or why it it is happening so much? Thanks.

I know what you are talking about but I've never had it happen in Windows 7. Happened in XP all the time.

Not sure if it is your computer or software issues or what but Windows 7 is boss.

Not sure if you'd call it image retention or "hanging" but I know what you mean and I've had it very few times ever. Not sure if it's something to be remedied between drives or hardware, but I don't think it's a common problem with 7.

It's happening to me nearly every time I right click from on Firefox. Very weird. It's not exactly a crippling issue but it is just plain lame and I wonder if it is related to other bullshit I'm dealing with.

that hasn't happened to me yet in Win 7 I think, but i know exactly what you're talking about...

list your hardare. because i'm pretty sure it's due to your hardware and not windows 7.
