Dual Monitor FFXI possible?

Assuming the hardware is ok with good dual DVI card, dual or quad processor etc.. can you run 2 fullscreen FFXI sessions on 1 system with 2 monitor displays or it can't work? I rather not setup a second system just to duobox if this works and doesn't lag too much.

Assuming that your are using windower in a actual windowed mode so that you could move the second instance of FFXI to your second monitor it shouldn't be an issue.

Hmm so I won't be able to fullscreen it then? I never ran dual monitors before so I don't know how it works, does it just stretch the desktop area?

You can stretch the game into 2 monitors, however, I don't think there's any option that support aspect ratio of 2 monitors.

Why do you want to do it in 2 monitors anyway? I use my 2 monitors this way : game on the left monitor, wiki/forum/ffxi-atlas/etc on the right monitor.

I run a dual monitor setup, but I run it at full screen (1280x1124) so FFXI defaults to the main screen for both (or more) instances of FFXI that I run. However I see no reason that if you setup FFXI to run in a window mode something like 1200x1100 (just pulling numbers out of my ass) ie you see the x on the top of the screen, you should be able to move it over to the secondary monitor. Honestly I haven't tried it, just don't see why there would be any issues. just can't be done without "real Windower"

as far as stretching the desktop it can if you set it up that way but I set mine up as a Dual View so each monitor is independent but as your mouse scrolls off the edge of one it shows up on the other

You can do this if you don't run true full screen i think and use wincontrol plugin to move the second instance of ffxi to the correct monitor.

I tried this a long time ago and came to the conclusion that it isn't possible. Any time I'd drag an instance of ffxi onto my 2nd monitor my system would lag out and my frame rate would drop to virtually 0. I was told that Vista would allow 3D apps to be run on multiple monitors but I don't plan on switching from 2k3 until Vista gets it's act together.

If you have the BEST video card on the market, you might be able to run windower (full screened) on both of them. But like somebody else said, if you try it on something less than the best, the frame rate on the "secondary" monitor drops to shit and the primary monitor suffers from huge lag also.

I run 2, sometimes 3 instances of ffxi at the same time, usually all full screened on one of my monitors and just tab between the screen, with the 2nd monitor left to do w/e with...hardly get any lag unless its prime time in Whitegate

I runned 3 FFXI with almost no lag on my Dell XPS 1710. My video card is a GeForce Go 7950 GTX. I was also able to run 2 games on dual monitor, FFXI being on my laptop monitor with no lag and the second on my second screen (the game being in windowed mode). I haven't tried to run 2 FFXI on dual monitor because I wasn't able to drag one FFXI into the second monitor. I haven't tried since the "real windower" has been released but I'll try later when I get home.

When i'm on my desktop, I have 2 computer and 2 screen which resolve this problem. But I get the problem of using 2 keyboards. I hope this works, it would be nice to just alt-tab to switch char and still be able to see the first one. I just hope FFXI won't crash because it was another problem I had when I used the "real windower". As soon as I start a full screen app, FFXI would crash.

I usually run FFXI fullscreen on one moniter, AppRadar/Vent on the other, However when I dualbox I run Fullscreen on one moniter, Then with a seperate instance of windower I launch from the GUI with resolution stepped down one level 11xx-9xx somehting? This way even in windowed mode it fits on the other screen without covering start menu, Its kinda anoyying to not have both on true fullscreen, but it works, and both Games run with no lag, or at least comparable to running one instance. My PC not anything crazy either.

How do you get multiple instances? Everytime I try opening a second session (same computer), I recieve an error message.

You cant run them fullscreen, you have to run them windowed (but it can be at full screen resolution).

Also obviously the screen has to be setup in stretch rather than dual display (aka, it needs to be running as one big screen) - in dual display (two separate monitors running two separate resolutions), only one of them has the 3d capability needed to run ffxi.

Incidently, doing it this way is no more taxing on your pc than running two windows and alt tabbing between them. I have a shit pc (AMD 2400+ from about 6 years ago, 9800pro, 1gig ram etc) and I used to plvl myself with 2 screens running side by side. It's not fantastic, but its not terrible either.

When I put one of the windower instance to the secondary monitor, the graphics performance goes down. This is with my old System (P4 2.8c GHz, about 4-5 years old). But if you can afford more recent PC, you can run the other instance as fast on secondary monitor like me (I'm using Quad core now)

Since Windower has remodeled their forums wincontrol plugin is currently missing. I have contacted them about it a couple of weeks ago and it has still not been updated. Does anyone happen to have the plugin? please I have used it for a long time and recently had to do a fresh install and lost everything.

I'm the lead developer of windower and I don't even know what this plugin is, or that it existed. But there it is!
