Crafting guides

I didn't want to revive a dead thread or two so I decided to make a new post about this. I recently started this game up and was wondering if there are any crafting guides or websites that some of you could share on here. I also have questions about gear choices and where to find decent + free gear or stuff that I could make soon. Thanks in advance.

ffxiv.yg.com is a good resource for your crafting needs, they probably have the biggest and best organized recipe lists. General rule of thumb is to aim for 5 ranks above you if it requires training (weaving, woodlaying, smelting, etc.), and higher if it's cheap to synth (like 1 shard 1 piece of mat) or doesn't require training. There's also a general guideline path for crafting on this forum, just look down a few posts or back a page or two, the thread shouldn't be too buried. Finally, there's Eorzeapedia, though I don't think their guides have been updated since January, so their "optimal synth" choices might not be as optimal now. Also, this post would probably go best in the crafting questions thread. Some tips though: grab a crafting buddy or three that can repair your gear, and take up alchemy and fishing for your crystal needs. Synthing fish into shards is the quickest way to get them, if mind-numbingly boring, and you'll be able to get around 2k shards per 25 hours if you don't buy fish from vendors.
