Anyone have experience with POL Error 1155? (FFXI)

Just downloaded off Steam. Booted up PlayOnline and of course, I had to update it. So, it updates up to step 3 and then gives me the error 1155. I tried several times after this error and it would constantly appear after finishing step 1 (Checking files).

I have noticed that deleting all of the .tmp files you get from updating lets me get past step 1 but I never make it to step 3. I have searched several pages but none were specific enough to tell me why this error is appearing or what I can do to fix it. Really aggravated atm as all I wanted to do was at least get the game set up and play it tomorrow, knowing that I'll have to do those dreaded updates for the game. Anyway have an ideas for this? Uninstalling/Reinstalling is a last resort kinda thing for me atm, as my connection is horrid :/. (Downloaded it from someone's else's house)

Make sure you are running Steam & FFXI as administrator.

(Right click -> Run As... -> Administrator)

Well, there is only 3 accounts on my computer, and the one I'm on atm is the admin :/. This is so frustrating D:

And for some reason now, I cannot launch the game from steam, unsure of why. I have to actually go to the folder to launch it. Neither of the configs are opening from steam either.

Even if your accounts are 'administrator' the program itself may not be running under an administrator account.

Anytime I click "Run as" and select my administrator account, it says, "Unable to start PlayOnline Viewer. Please ensure that you are logged into your computer under an account with administrator rights." This is the only admin account though :/.

EDIT: Unchecked the "Protection" box and ran as my current user (The admin) and still didn't work.

The next thing I would try is make sure you have the proper ports forwarded/opened on your router.

Yes, those ports are opened. Learned from google one person fixed this error by deleting all the .tmp files in the folders. I've tried this a couple times, and it actually lets me get past step 1 and to step 2, but never step 3. (Normally, if I just leave the .tmp files, I finish step 1 then I get the error.) Unsure of whether that's progress or not :/.

If it was something like a corrupt file, it should tell me which file right? Because the error isn't saying anything about files.

I do appreciate you taking the time to try and help .

It could be a few things in relation to the files.

    1. There was an error downloading them (port issue), so, when it's checking it's giving you the error.
    2. The files did get corrupted when writing to your drive.

I would recommend downloading a FFXI .iso -- and not using Steam, or, not installing the updates via PlayOnline. There is a great thread in BG advanced that has been consistently updated thanks to Kohan.

Check your files, make sure everything is ok, then follow the directions in the link above.

Aren't the updates in that thread for the actual game? I'm trying to update to the latest playonline version :/

Yes, the recommendation is to get off the Steam version of POL/FFXI and install the real game (outside Steam).

You can get real POL (not steam version) from the readme inside my link above, then the real setup CDs from the same directory.

Then apply the updates from the BG link, or let the game update itself.

If I use the POL from your link and download it, will I still be able to use the FFXI I downloaded from steam? How does that work?

The codes are registered to your account, it doesn't matter what platform you're playing on be it Steam or just launching the program regularly.

I never responded back to this topic. I got PlayOnline from that link you had given me, installed it and now I'm able to register. I thank everyone that took time to help me :3.

my friend started a couple days ago, downloaded from Steam before I could tell them how crap Steam is, so 2 questions:

do the add-ons (moogle, shantotto, abyssea etc) stay linked to the account?
and if not, do you have those hosted as well?

hoping to enable them to use windower, as, last I checked, windower is not compatible with it run from Steam

They are linked to the account and the normal update process will install those expansions.

Windower is compatible, you just need to fully login once normally then you can use windower.

One thing i noticed last 4-5 times i've dl'ed ffxi is that the Playonline would never work for me. I always had to download the windows7/vista one off the playonline website. After that never had any troubles so maybe try that? sorry if i'm reading the question wrong.
