Does anyone have some handy tips to make the move faster and easier, or should I just expect pure hell?
Also, we may be moving during a hurricane, depends on the track and how long it takes us.

May want to build an inventory spreadsheet is all I'll suggest.
did you hire a moving company or are you putting it in a car and driving it wherever?
last time I moved, I hired a moving company that packed my shit and unpacked it in the new place. was pretty nice. that's my suggestion, outsource the hassle.
We've rented a van and are planning on doing it ourselves. We're moving to a new place just 20 minutes away.
don't break your back. Bend at the knees, and make the women do all the work. The end.
Have lots of friends, bring them over to do the work.
Pay pizza and beer at the end of it so you don't feel guilty.
Someone is gonna break something, make sure you make him feel miserable.
Moving sucks, but paying people to do it is kind of a waste, IMO. Moving companies can be expensive and I had plenty of people to help me - even with my apartment being on the third floor. As long as you got a handful of people to help, especially with the bigger shit, it shouldn't take more than a few hours to get everything inside.
Don't try to put everything "away" right away. Fucking bring it in, start a huge stack of boxes in a corner somewhere, bring furniture into their respective rooms but leave it there for later. Get everything in first unless your rooms are tiny and you won't have space to rearrange later. (Personally I live alone and I only needed my bed to really be ready, everything else was all over the place for about two weeks while I sorted through it bit by bit every day after work.) If you have kids and expect them to sleep in the house that night, of course try to get their rooms done, but otherwise, just bring everything inside and sort through it after. It may seem like doubling your workload, but would you rather take longer bringing shit in and out (in the AC and out into the fuckhell hot) or would you rather get everything in within a few hours and then rearrange in the AC? That was my thought process.
Get a time machine and travel back in time enough to give yourself more than a single day to prepare for moving?
We've been preparing. Stuff is packed for the most part.
I was just looking for some last minute ideas to make it go smoother.
Also, was planning on dumping everything there and coming back for another load. I estimate that we've 3-5 van loads.
We also have to go to a furniture store to buy new bookcases and a sofa since I sold ours on Kijiji.
Renting a larger truck might be cheaper overall, considering gas prices.
Yeah if it's a local move you can get a U-haul for like 50 bucks I think. (Been a while)
Hire someone to do it for you. On that note, if you ARE having friends help, make sure you know WTF is going on, and have all your boxes packed BEFORE help arrives. I have left my best friends house cus he wasnt ready to move when i arrived to help him move. Noone wants to help regardless of whether they actually help or not, so make it as painless on them, and you as possible.
When you take into consideration the price of the rental truck (most charge a flat fee plus mileage and gas) plus the cost of pizza and beer for people you are basically at the cost of hiring a moving company, especially if you're doing 3-5 truck loads. They will have a larger truck and will take them far less time.
I suggest doing what I do when I move. Hire a moving company. When they arrive have your shit labeled for what room in the new place its going. In the new place make sure its clearly marked which room it is. Once the movers start loading up the truck, head to the beach and surf for a few hours. When you're done surfing head to your new place and your shits there. Works like a charm.
I would absolutely not trust a total stranger with my stuff alone for any length of time. I don't have a lot of valuables but what little I have I can't afford to replace. I wouldn't leave movers unsupervised, fuck no.
Granted if they fuck up your shit or something comes up missing you can probably take action against them but dude I'd much rather keep a close eye on people who are putting things in my house.
if you hire a respectable company and tip nicely, your shit will end up in your new home with no issues or hassle. when I moved it was... an extreme value in furniture, clothes, art, watches etc and there were no problems whatsoever, though I hired a professional piano mover and art/antiques mover for those respective assets.
If you have a washer and dryer, make sure to get a dolly with a strap for moving them. (and if they're nice, make sure to put some cardboard between the strap and the unit to protect the finish)
Other than that, get packing blankets and cover any nice furniture as it goes into the van so it doesn't get fucked up in transit from stuff rubbing together.
Oh and pack boxes based on room and clearly label with a sharpie so that it can go straight to the appropriate room in the new place and not have to be moved around 5 times.
Lift with your knees.
