Regarding the Suspension of the Test Server (Sep. 19)

The FINAL FANTASY XI Test Server concluded its initial testing phase on September 19th at 18:30 (GMT).
We would like to thank all players who participated in testing and offered valuable feedback.

Once the schedule for the next test phase has been finalized, it will be announced in the "Information (Test Server)" forum.

Players interested in participating should note the following details:

Even if you participated in the previous test phase, you will be required to submit a new application via the FINAL FANTASY XI Test Server Application Form.
Your character data will be deleted from the test server at the end of each testing phase. Your most recent character data from FINAL FANTASY XI will then be copied over to the test server anew once your application for the next phase has been processed.
Your installed copy of the FINAL FANTASY XI Test Client will remain usable for the next testing phase. Users who have uninstalled the client will be able to download it again once their applications have been processed.

We aren't upset that they are going to be adding new stuff to test on it. We're upset that they are going to be this sporadic about it. As people are saying, there was still a lot to test. Maybe not what SE wanted tested, but still important things. That and there was no warning.

You tested the new content before it came it came out. It has now been release. Anything you want to test can be done in game now.

Not sure what the big deal is.

Yea pretty much. I think it makes sense, they delete it all, and start over with new pre-update stuff on next go around.

Pretty much how I'm feeling.

Given the feeling that they dev team is fucking tiny, there's no need for them to have a test server running when it's not even up to date with the current servers. Better off waiting until they.....you know, have new content for us to crash the game with.

People were figuring out what level we got traits because you can change jobs and weapon skill levels on the test server, I'm pretty sure that's why Byrth was referring to.

Yeah, I can understand that, but I never saw a reason for the server to stay up after an update. I sucks in that sense, but all it means is wait for next time the server is up and do the testing there.

Close. You can test for levels of job traits very quickly and easily by being able to control your skills and levels to a precise degree.

It's lame for testing reasons, but it make sense on SE's behalf. The general intent of a test server isn't so players can flesh out the details of mechanics and traits.

So the players can tell them things like "40 geodes is ridiculous for one extra stat and a few extra delay", then the Dev Team can more swiftly and accurately ignore them?

No, they aren't listening to Japanese players either. There was a JP post about how fucking horrendous Cloudsplitter and Farsha are, the Devs responded "We did some testing and you guys are wrong." So they aren't just ignoring us.

The test server can serve a functional purpose without catering to the players. Namely, allowing SE to implement shit without worrying about too many glitches along the way. Somehow, I think the servers were key in the updating being short, yet quick.
