BG Home repair: prefab fiberglass bathtub repair

I was laying in the tub this morning, and I pushed off the end to sit myself up and my damn heel went through the tub. I know they have patch kits, can I patch this and is it difficult? New prefab tub/shower combos are about $500-$1000 plus install. Too close to Christmas to drop those expenses. Will probably replace after the new year. Here's a picture with a standard credit card to scale the size of the damage.

I seriously take about 3 baths a day, especially leading up to an exam. I'll lay in the tub and study. Shit's relaxing.

I read the preview before I clicked on it and bust out laughing for some reason. Just be sure your wearing full gear and respirator if your planning to patch it with more fiberglass

Patch kit will work
Patch kit will also look like junk.
Hit the automotive store and buy some Bondo.
Sand your edges (wet sandpaper), Bondo it up, sand it level, grab a small bottle of appliance paint that matches (sorta) and give everything the proper time to dry. Depending on how much time you spend sanding things level, and how close your color is, you can go years without replacing.

White balance. And I went to lowes and bought some epoxy. I do have some bondo experience from restoring old cars, so we'll see how it goes. I don't really care about aesthetics, it's the master bath that no one enters except the wife and I. Luckily I was able to access both sides of the crack, the back half from a plumbing door in my closet. I sealed up both side, letting it dry now, then I'll go back and sand. I mixed a brown and white and tried to match colors as much as possible.

I found out that mine wasn't actually fiberglass, so check that first (obviously, a fiberglass repair kit won't work on plastic tubs). I ended up using some shitty looking boat repair thing. It looks like ass, but it is waterproof. We're planning on getting the tub replaced and getting the surround tiled next year, so it doesn't matter to me that the tub is white and the patch is a gray color.

How old is the tub? or has it been there since you rented / bought the place you're at right now. If it's something you had gotten within the last 5 years it should still be under warranty call up the people and have them fix it, tubs are suppose to be very sturdy, so to be able to do that is kinda wtf if it's less then 5 years old.

If you have trouble trying to locate patches, look through your local Hardware store or Automotive store, they should have kits that will have a patch of fiberglass cloth, a bottle of resin, and a bottle of hardener. You add a few drops of hardener to the resin, soak the cloth, and put it over the holes, it's a quick fix. the color may not match the same as it but you should be able to find paints and what not that you can use if you have OCD.
