    Ipod subfolders?

I just got my Ipod classic in the mail today and I haven't been able to figure out how to create subfolders for my playlist. With an 80 gig memory, things will get real messy, really quickly if I can't categorize into subfolders. Is there any way to do this? I tried dragging one playlist onto another, but it doesn't work (using itunes if that makes any diff)

It creates a folder in my Itunes folder, but it doesn't show up and isn't draggable to my Ipod via devices.

Make the folder in your itunes library then drag it over (after you add the songs) to the iPod.

It seems folders only work on newer ipods mine is ... 5th gen but the first 30G ones. So it does drag the folder but shows up as playlist, lame :/

Doesn't work for me. When it has the two separate2 playlists in the folder and I drag over the folder, it just makes the playlist the name of my folder and combines all the playlists that I had in that folder, instead of keeping them separate.

Then I got no clue, go beat up Steve Jobs and steal an Ipad while you're at it.

After looking around, you can't create subfolders >.>
What is the point of 80gb when you can't organize the shit in a decent fashion?
I'm going to sell this and get another brand of mp3 player.

Which ones have similar sound quality to the Ipod? My last mp3 was a 4 gig sony walkman and it sounded like ass.

I'm confused, why would you need playlist subfolders? What organization were you trying to accomplish?

Ect ect. The way I had it, I was able to organize things in a reasonable fashion and converting from that to Ipod, I have a giant cluster fuck of play lists all out at once that I have to sort through every time I want to play a song from what would be another folder.

Also, scroll wheel not operational with gloves on and it was cold as fuck out this morning. That also pissed me off.

Why not just use the genre/artist views for that? You shouldn't need playlists for all those things.

Maybe I'm mis-remembering how the standard Apple firmware works though, I've been using Rockbox on my ipod for years, and I usually just use its file browser.

I have many artists that I only have 1-2 songs for and as for sorting by genre, I like the folders because I don't like to group more than 20 songs in 1 category or it just gets hazy.

How does Rockbox work and is there any custom firmwares that support subfolders?

I don't really know how to describe the way it works, you could try looking through the documentation: http://download.rockbox.org/daily/ma...html#x7-390004

I haven't tried any other alternate firmwares (rockbox does what I want), but there might be some others out there.

You can control whether or not Rockbox includes the contents of subdirectories when adding an entire directory to a playlists. Set the Main Menu → Settings → General Settings → Playlists → Recursively Insert Directories setting to On if you would like to include tracks in subdirectories as well as tracks in the currently selected directory.
Sounds like sub-folders to me, but it's a really long page and I am a bit busy atm, will check it in a few hours.

Way to create sub folders in ipod

In itunes, choose your device after connecting it (click on the device name)
Go to File --> New Playlist Folder.
    This will create a folder.

Now within this folder if you want to create subfolders, click on the newly created playlist folder and then:
Go to File --> New Playlist

This way you can create as many subfolders you want under the main folder.

Or you can also move previously created playlists into a main folder.

You can create multiple main folders as well using the same approach
