So, I found out my apartment got robbed this week, came home today to find the upper 2 deadbolts (that can't be unlocked from the outside) were locked. My first thought was "WTF? There better not be some homeless dude living in my place!" I look in the kitchen window, and as I look in to see if someone is in there, my head hits the window, knocking it out of the track. I climb in to notice half my shit missing and the deadbolts locked from the inside.

I call 911 and three officers come over to get a report, about 10 minutes after they show up, the officer asks me to look in my neighbor's window to see if I can identify anything in there. Turns out, as I was giving my description, the officer thought to ask my neighbors if they had seen anything, no one was home so he just noticed my stuff inside their apartment and asked me to identify. At that point, it was obvious the guy took my stuff, but here's where the real stupidity is, two days ago, he friend requested me on Facebook! Now, keep in mind, I had met this guy two maybe three times; I figured why not he's a nice guy, maybe we can hang out sometime. Never did I think the dude was going to rob me.

I'm having talks with my apartment community about getting out of my place now and I'm getting the feeling they are going to be hardasses about it. My question is, what would you do if this happened to you?

Chances are you will have to just wait out your lease. In the first apartment i had alone i was broken into 3 times over just over a 3 month period. The 1st time i had rebought most of my stuff, the 2nd time i didnt bother, by the 3rd time i had nothing left worth taking really.

It was after the 2nd time that i asked about being let out of my lease and was told no. Since i only had a few months left till i moved i just saved my cash. Later found out it was a freind of one of my sister's who lived in the same complex.

Looking back i should of checked with the Texas Apt Asso or the Houston Apt Asso to see if i could have been let out of my lease without consequences. Check your local apartment association and see what they have to say.

Oh and get renters insurance. Its pretty cheap.

This pretty much. Good to warn others of what this shit-bag can do. I'm assuming they waited for your neighbor and took him in to custody, no?

Haha... that would be funny, but I'd advise against it. That is pretty close to home to be starting up a personal feud, especially concerning a guy who has already accessed your home and can simply look out his window to see if you're home, sleeping, showering, doing bitches, etc... I'd just let the cops handle it and gtfo of that apartment. Simple fact is, you can be tough as nails and not afraid of anything or anyone, but when it's your neighbor and they're fucking crazy, all they have to do is wait and watch for an opportunity.

The cops took care of the situation and got everything out. The strange thing is, my GF had to verify that it was mine since I was on a flight to LA, and the cops noticed that there was a letter addressed to me on his table that stated that he stopped them from taking everything and that he was holding it for me until I got back. Funnily enough, his "holding" my property actually means he hooked up my washer and dryer and did some of his laundry...

This was actually in Atlanta, I'm a dirty transplant to the city as is everyone else.
