Group Project on basic Networking

The group project is basically gonna be building a network for my school. I'll provide more details when I feel that it's needed.

We need to give my professor an estimate of the stuff we're gonna need and I wanted to ask what would be a good website for getting the prices for business class networking hardware such as servers, hubs, printers, etc. We're not on a budget but since this guy is kinda anal, I don't wanna go balls to the wall either.

I'm know I'm not providing much and I apologize, I'll answer anything to clear anything up, but I'm being vague on purpose because I don't need specific information yet.

http://www.cdwg.com/ probably, though you could still check things like Newegg. They do carry some of it. Could also possibly look at the business side of Dell, HP, etc.

Realistically, it'd be a less straightforward process than tossing things in an online shopping cart though. You'd likely talk to account/region representatives to put together a quote/bid for the hardware you spec'ed out (which they'd likely help you do as well).

They have lots of US accounts, and depending on your state your schoolboard might already buy from them.

A word of advice though; since you're buying enterprise level gear for a public institution under no circumstances should you ever be messing with anything resembling a retail outlet. Figure out what firm your school or school board is already doing business with, see what's what and then decide who to shop with. Pricing and service availability will vary from region to region and depend on the dollar value of the account. Get on the phone with a sales rep, explain the situation and who you represent, get some advice and a quote and make a sound decision.
