Need a new monitor, any recommendations?

So my monitor decided that it doesn't want to turn on anymore so I need a replacement. I'm looking for something under 200 bucks, 22-24 inches, wide color range (IPS?), and would do alright for light gaming. Looking around thus far, I've seen this model called out to be close to what I'm looking for but the price is a little too high and I'm unsure about a 8ms response time. Am I going to end up seeing a lot of ghosting with a response time that large? Do you guys think I would do better with a different model?

I can't speak to the ghosting as I don't know, but I have the 22inch model of the Dell you linked and fucking love this monitor. I was able to grab that refurbished from Dell for $140, so it might not be impossible to swing, but certainly more rare. It seems like IPS is the majority of what's being produced for any new monitors coming out so I'm not sure if there isn't something more recent that'd be worth looking at, too.

Same panel that apple and dell use, for 1/3 the price. The price is more than what you wanted, but if you can afford to spend a little extra, you won't regret it.

I can't attest for the Korean IPS panels, but I can for IPS in general. I originally bought a Samsung 24" (think 350HL or something) and really liked it. But at my job, they had Dell U2312s, and I loved the viewing angle. So I researched a little and purchased U2412M to have a face off against my Samsung. Well... The Samsung didn't last long. I played games on a dual monitor (identical) setup for a day. I noticed no difference in input lag (because GTG response time is lol) and the color was just infinitely better. The TN panel looked washed out in comparison to the IPS. I quickly sold my Samsung and I've never looked back. Oh and viewing angle, I could sit anywhere I wanted in my room and still see my screen.

TL;DR buy an IPS and never look back. Don't let the response time scare you. Single best purchase in my new rig along with SSDs.

Don't have one of these, only read about them. LG's newer IPS monitors like this one have very good panels at a decent price. The IPS235V is bit above your 200$ goal, but there are other IPS monitors in the series that go down to 190 bucks on newegg.

IPS and VA are so much better than TN panels and continue to drop in price, so i'd say invest a little more and get a good IPS one instead of a cheap TN one...

I recommend the Dell IPS panels. I was originally going to go with 3x 24inch but went with 1x 30inch and never looked back. Can't wait to add a second 30 inch when I can get the same deal I had last time. If I didn't get the deal I did, the 24" are for sure what I would have went with.

Those Korean EBay ones seem too good to be true. What's with they saying that they check each one but will still ship out if there are up to 5 dead pixels? I think I'd rather go through Newegg, their return policy is fantastic and I'd rather not get burned by a company I've never heard of.

Looks like I'll have to nudge my budget up a little to get what I'm looking for.

They use a- panels, which means they are more likely to have small defects like dead pixels, or backlight bleeding. Most (85%+, i believe) still won't have any dead pixels, though from what i've read, minor backlight bleed is fairly common, but not generally a big deal. The high pixel density makes dead pixels less of concern than with lower resolution monitors though, if you do get some. Even if you don't get a perfect monitor, it's still going to be just soo much better than anything else you can possibly buy for less than 2-3x the price, is going to be worse.

Dell brought out a 27" IPS panel ~2 weeks ago that's 1080p, but reasonably priced ~£300 in the uk, so prob around $250-350 in the US?

p. sure Dell's new 27-inch IPS panel, if it's the one Anandtech reviewed, is about $700 lol. That's the draw to the Korean panels; possibly lousy support or warranty, so some risk, for crazy huge savings.

You can also buy pixel perfect Catleaps, they cost a bit more but are guaranteed to have 0 dead pixels on delivery.

I have a Dell U2711, and I fucking love it. It replaced a 2709W (a PVA panel) that developed a magenta line down the center, 3 weeks before its warranty expired. Someone was smiling in my direction that day.

I've been using a 2412m for a little over a month now and I really like it. I don't notice any lag and the picture/angles are great.
