Military life: What have been your experiences and/or advice to give

Tried looking for something like this in past pages/RQT and found nothing so decided to make a new topic. For awhile now I have been thinking about joining a military service, so I finally have a meeting with a (Air force/Chair force)recruiter sometime next week, are there any specific questions/topics I should bring up with him to get answers. Now for the main part, I would like to know what some of the experiences that some people have had during their time with any of the five military branches and what would your advice be to someone just now joining. It doesn't matter which service you have been in or how for long, I'm just looking for some insight on what to look forward to/work towards. Thanks for the input everyone.

Research the rate in which you go into. I seriously cannot stress this enough, ask any former military personnel: Pick your rate, choose your fate.

By 'rate' your talking about how many years i sign up for correct? and if so, what do you mean by picking my fate, like what would be the diffrence between signing for two years vs six years? (again if this is what you mean by what you stated earlier)

No, rate is a Navy term for the job you do, same as MOS for other services.

Typically the longer you enlist, the better chance you have to get a bonus. Some jobs also require longer enlistments due to the type of training required.

Ahh alright thanks for the clarification, I was thinking about going into something like intelligence work or security/police depending on how I score.

EDIT: Also who has had off base housing vs living on base or in barracks/other forms of housing, how was your quality of life in the housing that you had?

Zalrik, pm me. I have no issues answering Navy questions, if you have them.

Why would anyone WANT to join the military exactly? It's nothing more than a fallback career surely?

Any career can give schooling and benefits without having to resort to supporting the killing of innocent children though surely? As for the family tradition I can't understand that because I've always wanted to be me and do what interests me, never really felt the need to do something or be like someone in family or otherwise.

No really... did you grow up thinking: "I really want to join the army when I am old enough?" or was it a fallback due to lack of education or other reasons? I thought I wanted to be in the army when I was a child, good lord, lol

Everyone has their reasons for doing what they do. Did you aspire to be a twat as a youth, or did that happen to due lack of social interaction and hours and hours of chronic masturbation?

Let me see, I think I first decided to start being a twat when I was about 18 because I realized that ridiculing the mentally inadequate was rather satisfying. No need to shit things up though, I am genuinely curious and I would like to hear from someone that joined for family tradition reasons; I really can't fathom how that must feel.

I imagine it feels like being proud of what your mother/father did, and wanting to follow in those footsteps.

Do you think it takes a certain mentality to want to do that though? Or do you think the majority of people that would claim family tradition reasons really felt pressured into it?

pressured? some. I know a few who joined out of pressure from that overbearing parent, but most I know who were military brats did it because they saw and liked some of what the parent(s) did, and wanted to experience something similar.

My grandp served in ww2, my dad served in Vietnam, I was strictly told not to join, get an educatin, yada yada, but when that didn't pan out i joined . I wanted to do something in the medical field, as I didn't want to be a shooter, but that wasn't happening, so long story short I choose to disarm bombs.
Fast forward a few years, be a first responder in a war zone pretty much makes you a shooter, but the 300+ IEDs I've disarmed has helped ease the burden of sending someone to the next life I'd say.

So yeah fall back career etc, etc, all those snide half assed insults you threw out there. Your little passive aggressive "bait" is nothing more than a pussy cop-out. You don't agree with the military, fucking say you don't agree, like some of the honest mother fuckers on this forum, don't pussy foot around like a gigantic vagina.

Funny thing is, I'd still take a bullet for ya fat piece of shit.
