One of Square Enix’s earliest forays into iOS was a tower defense game with Final Fantasy Tactics Advance sprites called Crystal Defenders. Crystal Defenders is now on everything from PlayStation Network to Xbox Live Arcade and even Windows Phones. We’re talking about it again because Gungho Online Entertainment announced a crossover with Puzzle & Dragons. What’s that? Maybe this commercial will explain it.

OK… so it’s not about weddings. Puzzle & Dragons is kind of like Puzzle Quest meets Pokémon. It’s one of Gungho Online Entertainment’s most lucrative titles. After all, they made a TV commercial for an iPhone and Android game.

The Crystal Defenders and Puzzle & Dragons crossover event is scheduled for November in Japan. Specifics will be shared at a later date, but it looks like Moogles are involved…

Square Enix made a tower defense spinoff with the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance characters called Crystal Defenders. Now, those Hume Soldiers and Seeq Beserkers are charging into Puzzle & Dragons from GungHo Online Entertainment. You can add Crystal Defenders characters to your Puzzle & Dragons party and fight Tonberrys in a crystal dungeon. Apparently, there are enemy crystals too.

GungHo Online Entertainment also made a weird moogle dragon and if you give it magic stones you can get Crystal Defenders characters. The collaboration kicks off now, but it looks like it’s just for Japan. Puzzle & Dragons is available in English on iOS.
