The all Worlds maintenance, which was scheduled to occur on Dec. 10, 2012 from 9:00 to 11:00 (PST), has been postponed until further notice due to the discovery of a critical bug. We will provide an update once the new maintenance time is confirmed.

Honestly this was expected as they did not allow actual salvage testing. You can expect a once a day maintenance after the VU goes live as the new salvage is probably full of bugs.

In the grand scheme of things this is meaningless and probably will be a few hours to a few days at most.

In the short term, though, especially based on the recent history of FFXI updates (i.e. how basically every update has bugs in it), how the fuck does a "critical bug" get found less than 9 hours before an update goes live, and why does it force them to delay the update when they could just extend the associated maintenance to fix it? And aside from that, shouldn't the QA on the update have been finished days ago?

Who knows what bug it was? and yeah. How could a huge bug be missed like this? I assume they were doing final tests before making this live and found it. (I assume they're doing several rounds of testing before they release something; since it was found late, I assume this was found on the final round of testing)

Well, hopefully it'll show up in a day or two at worst and they squished the bug.

Dont know, the only mention of it was this:

We will be introducing this shortly but I am just announcing here for the first time that we will fix the bug that allows for status effects to be maintained by interacting with NPCs.

Only SE knows what the timeframe of "shortly" is.

Yes, supposed to be. General list of what's supposed to be in this update:

Salvage Expansion
Meeble Burrows Adjustments (and potentially expansion)
Bard Song Adjustments
Nyzul/Legion/Odin Adjustments
Einherjar/Limbus Adjustments (dropped timers, remove EX tag from chips)

NPC Buff Lock Fix (i.e. can't use it anymore)
Edit: Nynja's right, they only ever said "shortly" for the NPC fix. Can't imagine "shortly" meaning the next update, though, and I doubt they'd do a patch between updates just for this (plus they said it already went through QA, apparently unlike the actual version update itself LoL).

Didn't they say this was coming in the subsequent update?
