Such as FFXI and WoW comparisons. Diverting topic from another forum.
If you want to know how this began and read it from the beginning you can backtrack from this link. Only a couple pages back.Reiterating some oldies since i don't want to retype everything. Was from ToAU Expansion before Dancer and scholar was implemented.
Basically you can do everything in WoW with pick up groups, it is made for the casual gamer and it works wonderfully in that aspect. While there are some tricks to killing some endgame bosses it is nothing overly complicated and if you happen to die, no penalties. Just restart and try again instantly, just ghost walk back to where you died. While you have to know how your job works, you do not have to be hardcore, just know what buttons in what order, your gear will make up for your downfalls most of the time. Points are allocated just for entering instances so can always build up enough points to get end game gear in a certain amount of time. Although endgame gear may change the following month. Their is also a plethora of add-ons that will make the game that much easier for the player if desired since Blizzard is ok with 3rd party tools. Such as time clocks, when to land certain blows on bosses, highlights for everything you deem important. Just follow the instructions and click. Very expansive and always holding your hand. PVP is awesome in this game. The music can be annoying and the story in no ways draws you into the world. Lastly the community is known for its immaturity and often vulgar public chats, the game already does its best to get a new player to endgame in a few days without any help from anyone.Or Simplified.FFXI is basically for the hardcore gamers, nothing can be done without a group. Knowing your job is required to get anywhere in game, if you prove to be inferior you were not allowed to join groups for endgame bosses as materials are often needed to pop said bosses. Every single individual has to know what their doing or everything falls apart. You have to Strategize before hand no matter how simple the task be it leveling or simple quests. Let alone the more complex tasks of endgame Once a plan is set and practiced a little, things do go quickly and smoothly most of the time. There are penalties for dying in the form of having a chunk of EXP lossed which could eventually delevel your character if repeated. Also all instances where items to activate it are lost and have to be regrinded which may take in some instances of months if not an entire year to put together. This also gives the FFXI player a relationship to ones character and the importance of keeping that character alive. Let alone you cannot Ghost your way back to your corpse bypassing all mobs that would prevent you from returning anyway. Add-ons have to be secretive since SE bans all those they find using 3rd party tools and or exploits. There is a plethora of endgame activities nyzul, limbus, sky, etc.... PVP should probably have skipped on this game. The music has won many awards and is often played in symphonies around the world and the story draws you into its world like no other MMO that i have played so far. Lastly the community is known for its maturity and helpfulness that helps alleviate some of the grind and frustration up to 75 which still could take up to months if not a full year.
In the end i still say its comparing apples to oranges. Although i think the ability to accomplish quests in FFXI required another skill tier entirely in trying to discern what to do, where to do it at, and what is needed to accomplish it.If you're a really dedicated player who likes to accopmlish difficult tasks against the in-game stuff, stick with FFXI.
WoW has more content for casual players, and TONS more quests and places to explore.
Of course, once you hit 70, WoW has a lot of good end-game content. There's also the PvP element, which FFXI lacks.
Overall, they're both a good value, but I really got more of a sense of accomplishment from FFXI than I do from WoW.
