cats aren't just shitty pets, they are also awful for the planet

"We estimate that free-ranging domestic cats kill 1.4 to 3.7 billion birds and 6.9 to 20.7 billion mammals annually," says the study. "Unowned cats, as opposed to owned pets, cause the majority of this mortality." The paper says the estimates are much bigger than previously thought, and show that cats "are likely the single greatest source of anthropogenic [man-made] mortality for US birds and mammals." It adds: "Scientifically sound conservation and policy intervention [are] needed to reduce this impact."

The study coincides with a fierce debate in New Zealand, where Gareth Morgan, a businessman turned philanthropist, has called for cats there to be eradicated to save the country's unique species of wildlife, which includes the flightless kiwi.

The results suggested that cats, whether stray or owned, are likely the single biggest threat to birds and native mammals. The suggestion that humans should, in turn, grab their torches and pitchforks and chase after psycho-killing cats was never made. Though better management is needed.
Rather, the study authors, like Pacelle, recommend that we come together to think of a more effective (and presumably humane) way to get at the heart of the problem: "Our estimates should alert policy makers and the general public about the large magnitude of wildlife mortality caused by free-ranging cats...Simple solutions to reduce mortality caused by pets, such as limiting or preventing outdoor access, should be pursued."
In other words, let's go to the drawing board instead of grabbing our guns.
Or we could just destroy cats

Illegal mexicans kill more but you see America opening the doors wide for all of them. Won't be long until we start finding pits of beheaded bodies in America now. Better start worrying about much more important things other than how an animal acts as nature intended. Birds are major disease carriers, crop attackers, noisy and nasty poop everywhere. Birds cost us $ to repaint cars damaged by their nastiness. Birds/mexicans..fly the coop!
So do cars! Are we going to ban those or is it different when humans kill animals for convenience than when cats do it because of their natural instincts?
And Americans go through 50 billion chickens every year, making them far deadlier than the cats. Get some perspective.

Why are they turning on cats now? Cats aren't the only animals that prey. I've known dogs to kill birds and other animals as well as other animals killing other animals. So why are they going after cats now? dam/N America where will it stop? Next you'll finger some human group to go after?
If all cats should be kept inside, should all birds be kept in a cage?
    LEAVE CATS ALOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE

It's a cat's natural instinct to kill prey and become bred and spread around by human populations across the globe.
