    Skiing on the CHEAP

Looking for some advice from skiers here.

I bought a season pass to my local ski hill a few days ago during a sale for half-off normal price and it works for the rest of the season this year and all of next winter as well.

I used to ski about a decade ago, I tried snowboarding and that was the last time I was on the slopes about 5 years ago.

I'm looking into buying some cheap gear, but I'm a little sticker-shocked from checking the local store prices.

Looking online, I'm seeing the shaped mini skis are somewhat reasonable priced. Are they any good?

Any other suggestions on gear or finding sales at the end of the season?

    Thanks in advance ^^

    1. Comfortable, Warm, and Dry Boots.
    2. Clothing that keeps you dry and warm
    3. Board or skis

    in that order imo

go rent skis of different types and sizes and find something you can control and enjoy. During summer all skis and boards go on sale for 50% off usually. Pickings can be slim but you can usually find something good.

If you are in Los Angeles you can check out Ski Dazzle expo next December. Great deals to be had there.

Those shaped mini-skis or "snow dogs" are good for going slow as shit down a hill and looking kinda stupid. Parabolic full length skis are something you can use from beginner to expert level of skill. Your height/weight determine a lot about length of skis or snowboard.

Warmer spring skiing temps; you can get off easy with gear. Quality mid weight jackets are all available at blow out prices even from mall stores like Zumiez now.

Never skimp on gloves though. These are the easiest-to-find HQ though, haven't really changed much in years. $70+ depending on exact model
    Spoiler: show

Larger ski mountains (+local ski shops) will also blow out all of their store inventory, not just the beat down low end rentals.

If you want cheap gear, wait until July, then buy ski gear.

So, I hit the slopes yesterday with some rental gear after deciding that snowboarding is stupid and dumb and no fun and that's why I'm no good at it.

I noticed the rental skis were a lot shorter than I remembered. Not blade short, but probably close to a foot shorter than I remembered and are kind of shaped now rather than straight. I think I'll find a cheap pair of normal skis if that is the new normal rather than blades.

I noticed on the hill that some skiers had very wide skis, not jump wide, but the widest part of my shaped skies throughout. What's that about?
