BST Stats

Hey, sorry for the noob question. I did alot of searching and couldnt find my answer.. i've been a longterm player. But i recently took a long break.. and i'm trying to remember if the stats on my gear will effect my Pet at all without it being specific "Pet: Stats" ? I thought it was something like... if i had a body peice that gave 10str. half of that would go to my pet? so 10str for me. 5str for pet? if someone can correct me i would appreciate it.

Or does only Pet + Stats effect the pet?
